red750 Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Scrolling through the TV channels here in hospital last night, I came across an ad for this gadget which I thought could be useful, particularly for anyone building an aircraft. They even mentioned aircraft building in the ad. You can get more info here: https://professionalnibbler.com.au/ ,
old man emu Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Or $50.00 for this one: https://www.melbournetoolsales.com.au/double-headed-sheet-metal-nibbler-cutter-drill-att~9586?srsltid=AfmBOoor7LKvQol3eiNHRpmIAzEmWHDiyFFef_azu86X5snZ4agVE6AA
onetrack Posted February 23 Posted February 23 They're bloody useless, like all drill attachments. A toy attempting to do a job that only the proper tool does. I've got one and concluded within a short time that it's next to useless. I went and bought a proper old Chicago Pneumatic air-operated sheet metal shears, and there's no comparison. 1. The drill attachment nibbler is only good for the very lightest sheet metal, stuff you can just about tear with your hands, the stuff garden sheds are sheeted with. 2. It's impossible to accurately guide the drill attachment nibbler. Sheet metal is not the easiest stuff to work with. 1
red750 Posted February 23 Posted February 23 The council recently resurfaced the road near our place. There were a couple of speed humps and a raised intersection to be replaced. They bitumened over the raised intersection, then meticulously etched in a brickface surface in a houndstooth pattern, painting in the brick and mortar colourings so it looks like a brick surface. 1
onetrack Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Those brick and mortar patterns are so easy to install on paving or roadways. They simply spray the surface initially with the "mortar" colour, then they lay down a "bricks-and-mortar" patterned outline stencil, made from a disposable material that looks like heavy paper (I'm not sure of the exact material used). They then spray the contrasting brick-colour material (a heavy paint, often with some type of grit in it), using a hopper gun, onto the surface - then they simply lift the stencil and throw it away, leaving a neat-looking, false brickwork pattern. https://prestigepatternpaving.com.au/spray.htm
facthunter Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Council work like that is contracted out these days Might provide a more consistent grip.. Nev. 1
red750 Posted February 26 Posted February 26 Well. I'm back home again after my surgery. I was told at breakfast yesterday the job would be at 1 pm. 1pm came, all packed up ready. 2 pm, no gurney. 2:30 pm, no gurney. Finally turned up at 2:45 pm. Moved up to coronary care ICU. Further testing and consulting between the team. Finally pushed into operating theatre at 3:15 pm Oxygen mask over nose, plastic sheet over face and they start. Done under local anaesthetic so awake through the whole procedure. A lot of pushing, pulling, probing before it's all over. Came out of theatre at 4:45 pm. Shoulder strapped up like a footballer with a dislocated shoulder. Can't raise my right arm above the shoulder for two weeks while the incision heals. Made eating a meal interesting. Surprising aside: When I was first pushed into theatre, the senior nurse picked up my paperwork folder and said, "Do you pronounce your surname 'Huff?'. I said, "Yes." She asked "Do you have a son named Andrew?" I said "Yes." She said, "I went to primary school with him." Makes you feel old. 1 1

ClintonB Posted February 27 Posted February 27 I don't know if the story is true, but the caption pretty much sums up some of life's choices. 1
onetrack Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Unfortunately, that's one of the biggest fake "photos" on the internet. The "coyote" is a German Shepherd and the bird isn't even a roadrunner. But don't worry, the coyote will be packing a set of ACME springs, to attach to his feet on the way down! I can remember watching a Road Runner cartoon at the Kambalda Drive-In in 1975, and nearly wetting myself laughing, at the absolute hilarity of the skits! Those cartoon artists were pure geniuses. I can't recall the exact cartoon, but it was one where Wile E. Coyote had strapped springs to his feet, and when he hit the ground at the bottom of the cliff, he bounced back into a dozen other things, on a repeating basis. It was just classic. 2
old man emu Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Didn't want to put this in the Trump thread, but I just had to express my admiration for Karoline Leavitt. I really admire her ability, at only 27 years-old, to navigate the minefield the the position of White House Press Secretary is. Her performances in those press briefings show an incredibly quick mind and complete grasp of the material she has to deal with. I haven't seen her stumble once at any time in the videos I've seen her in. Now, don't think I've gone over to the Dark Side. What she says is absolute crap, but one must be fair. She craps on exquisitely. I think she's the genius in the White House. 1 1 1
Litespeed Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Careful, Next you will vote Goebells as worlds greatest communicator. 1 1
old man emu Posted March 2 Posted March 2 I don't like what she does. I just admire how well she does it. She has the political nous of someone who has spent years operating in this area. It is too bad that she has hitched her wagon to the wrong animal. 1
onetrack Posted March 2 Posted March 2 She is one of the Army of Facilitators who provide the necessary support for the lies and alternative reality, on which the entire Trump Administration is based. 1
Marty_d Posted March 2 Posted March 2 What worries me, OME, is that if she's as intelligent as you say she is, then she knows how destructive and wrong pretty much everything this administration does is, and yet she still defends it - vigorously. What sort of character does that show? 1

What sort of character does that show? That puzzles me too, but as OME said she is very good at what she does. I think she is very smart and articulate but either so naive or wilfully blind that she believes everything she is saying. She may eventually realise that the actions of the corrupt regime she has been expertly defending are turning more and more pear shaped. Others like Stefanie Grisham and Alyssa Farah Griffin eventually figured out what Trump was all about and turned on him. 2
onetrack Posted March 2 Posted March 2 She's young and pretty and dumb, and has been fed the Trump "Kool-Aid" since the earliest days of Trump, and she's very articulate about putting points across. But the points she put across, are 110% Trump BS and disinformation. She doesn't understand that Trump really doesn't give a rats rectum about peace in Ukraine - he only wants access to more assets for himself, because he's totally self-obsessed, and totally transactional. He only wants peace in Ukraine so he can wangle deals for vastly increasing the Trump organisation's wealth, by raping the region, getting assets for bugger-all, if he can. He doesn't give a sh** about the damage to Ukraines cities and infrastructure, and the multiple hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians who have been killed, tortured, raped, or had their children stolen by the Russians. Trump's a ruthless oligarch and a total arsehole, and Leavitt is too young and dumb to see through him, she has no shrewdness of judgement of character, nor of a persons morals and ethics. It takes decades to develop that kind of skill - some people are born with it, it's called an inbuilt "BS detector", and those with that skill can see through fakes, and BS lying aims, in an instant. Trump claims he's out to save ordinary Americans money by stopping the Ukraine war. But America has funded endless wars for decades in an effort to promote "American values and American Democracy". But the Americans have failed in every war they've pushed into, from Korea on. They failed dismally in Vietnam, the losses in Vietnam would still be part of America's massive overhanging national debt. They failed dismally in Iraq, despite Bush claiming Victory. Iraq is a bigger basket case than ever. They failed in the War on Terror, the terrorists are still here, just in a different form, and more scattered. The Taliban still thrive, and the Americans failed to eliminate them. Hatred of America is still rampant in most Middle Eastern nations. And in amongst all this, the Military-Industrial Complex has gotten extremely rich, and the American billionaires who are invested in the M-I Complex have gotten even richer, on America's obsession with armaments and War. The M-I Complex companies ream out American taxpayers with charges for products, components and materials that can have up to 3,800 per cent profits attached to their pricing. This is where the U.S. taxpayers are being ripped off - not by giving arms assistance to countries that are being attacked - but by being vastly overcharged for the manufacture of their armaments. But there's little chance of anything happening as regards reducing profits for U.S Defence equipment manufacturers, because that would strike a blow at all of Trump's rich associates and supporters. 1 1
Jerry_Atrick Posted March 2 Posted March 2 She is very articulate and keps to script well. She also performs in coordinated press sessions where there is a lot of control over what can be asked. FOX is hardly going to really challenge her, and it would be interesting to see how she fairs in a golves off CNN or similar segment. If course, to get access, CNN have to abide by the rules stated by the press office, so often they are not able to go hell for leather. The 2016 - 2020 press secretary was equally blonde, equally young, equally eloquent, and equally on script. However, even FOX, during the attempted election steal, cut her off for babbling too much BS and keeping to script. 1
