Having two thirds of the parliament having to agree on the head of state would ensure the head was more even-handed than having just the prime minister install him.

Just ask Gough .

The voter's of a republic as offered to Australians will not get to vote on the election of the Australian presidency. The government in power will elect its own candidate for the presidency.

Better

That is only one of the models and the one put up by Howard to break Australia's heart. After the last election the USA needs the queen to take over as obviously democracy has failed in the US

What's the point of having a head of state being one person? At present its Lizzy, a figurehead with no power or authority other than what is bestowed by the guvmint. Or we could have a Pres either elected by the people (Trump?? we might end up with Pauline) or elected by the guvmint so another figurehead. We don't have a big red button luckily. Mind you I believe back in the cold war days the code was 00000 anyway so it couldn't have been be easier to annihilate the planets population. We're probably just as safe now as Trump can only use one hand & then the thumb & forefinger always make a zero & he can't do 5 of them at the same time.

I did like that cartoon of Lizzy with a red baseball cap on, emblazoned with "Make America GREAT BRITAIN again"

The election of Donald is proof democracy doesn't work properly. He didn't get as many votes as Hillary, by a few million. (He hates being reminded of that). Even if he was removed by impeachment, this would not be accepted by his followers as it would all be done by the system which Donald says is crooked. Everything is crooked but what HE does. ( even though he admitted making up the birther stuff about Obama, and would put crooked Hillary in jail as a first act as President) and we know he has skeletons in cupboards and probably more to be found yet. It will all be "fake" news. It's set up to have him stay there or pandemonium reigns. Nev

That's the trouble... he's as cunning as a sh*thouse rat and knows when to concoct a new outrage to take people's mind off whatever he's just cocked up. Prime example is his war on NFL players who kneel during the anthem to protest black killings. It's just a sideshow to take the news off the parlous state of the White House - the Russian probe, the revolving door of people who come and go ("You're fired!") and the breathtaking lack of talent, or sheer inappropriateness, of those he's picked (Betsy DeVos as Secretary of Education, Scott Pruitt as head of EPA, etc etc). Plus his f*ck ups with every attempt at foreign policy.

Crooked Hillary? This joker is a thousand times worse. Makes Tricky Dicky look like a choirboy.

The latest on Trump from his advisors is that he is "unstable" "losing a step" and "unravelling".

Steven Bannon, once at the President's side as chief strategist, has reportedly told people said he thinks Trump has just a 30 per cent chance of making it the full term.

A Trump advisor told Vanity Fair they were concerned about Trump's public appearances, and relieved he cancelled an interview on 60 Minutes last month.

"He's lost a step. They don't want him doing adversarial TV interviews."

Big deal, most of the world knew this before he was even elected & it's taken his advisors this long to catch up.
