Moon landing anniversary

Today 20 July 2024 is the 55th anniversary of man's landing on the moon, in 1969.

I've got a copy of an American newspaper somewhere, dated the day after, with the moon landing featuring as front page news. I was travelling around half of Australia with a mate in July 1969, and we heard the moon landing on the news on the radio when we were camped in the scrub somewhere between Darwin and Tennant Creek. We were heading South from Darwin to Adelaide, and then back to Perth.

I was in Sixth Form, my HSC year at a Christian Brothers school. We all went to the lounge room of the Brothers' residence and sat in front of a TV for hours watching the live broadcast.

Me too, sixth form and I went to a friend's house and sat on the floor.

First year engineering. Nobody turned up to lectures.

I'd been working for 8 years. Finished school 1960, joined the bank 1961.

1st job 1956 & a half . ( 6/12 ) . Yes, it was fractions then .

15 years old to leave school. And 14 if employed .
