It is such a strange world, if kamala was serious about things, wouldn't it be more appropriate to be updating the people about the middle east conflict which could at anytime explode, and cause nuclear devastation.

Posted

I note that neither KH nor DT are spruiking any policies that might directly address the homelessness or the drug problem or the gun problems nor poor education that's plagueing the country.

Much of those problems require a fundamental change of culture, by the population. Something that takes generations to achieve.

I disregard migration as a problem. The American indians might disagree with that, but modern USA is historically a nation founded upon migration.

Neither are they announcing actual real policies/action plans to stop arming beligerants in the middle east.

The current bitter and violent division of the country has been stoked and promoted massively by DT. With the result that whichever party wins this upcoming election, many years will pass before we see the US of A start to improve, both globally and for the population.

She is campaigning to contest an election. She is serious about and has spoken about the Middle East and many other topics. Trump is also campaigning but has nothing to say about it except that it wouldn’t have happened if he had been in charge, which is complete nonsense. Updates about the conflict are available practically all day, every day on any news broadcast. There is no reason for people not to be well informed if they are concerned about what’s going on, which we all should be.

They worship Guns, Money, and God in that order. They claim to trust God, but their real trust is shown to be in guns. They even take guns to their churches, showing their lip service to their God.

They put God on every single note of their currency, but once again, it's lip service, and the real God is money, worshipped by the vast majority of Americans.

It's interesting that in the Biblical records, God became angry with the Israelites for turning to worshipping Baal, symbolised by the Golden calf. Baal represented wealth, prosperity, and the acquisition of gold. It's no coincidence that Wall Street has a massive statue of a bull as its centrepiece, and it's no coincidence that Trump worships gold like no other American does.

Not sure of the relevance of a bull. They don't have a statue of the calf of Baal.

Unless you mean their bullshit baffles the brain whilst their hand swiftly reallocates your wealth into their trust fund.

They would love to have a Monarchy.  Trump plays on that. Give something to a poor person and you are a rotten filthy Commie the cause of all ills. Pentecostal, (there's 100 million of them) is a CULT of the wealthy who are chosen by God so GREED is  a required  trait. It doesn't seem very Christian. to me.  Nev

I was absolutely staggered to see the level and cost of the damage and destruction in Western N. Carolina from Hurricane Helene. It's been costed at US$53B just for that State.

It will be interesting to see how the Federal compensation plays out, whether it becomes a political football (as the Republicans would no doubt like), or whether the North Carolinans will become more favourably disposed to vote in Kamala ,when they receive Federal disaster monies.

What I find appalling is that the ordinary, everyday North Carolinan is bearing the brunt of the hurricane losses - largely due to the fact that 93% of the population is un-insured against flood or crop losses.

It appears there's a combination of factors at play - U.S. homeowners unaware that their insurance doesn't cover flooding, insurance companies keen to avoid payouts, and trying to deal with mounting losses caused by increasing natural disasters, and Govt flood maps that are seriously out of date.

The Dems made that all up and created the hurricane. This is the stuff that's about. FFS FIMA is there to get you out of your house to they can claim it from you. Bloody hell.  Trump is a climate change denier. Nev

We'll know the results in a few more days but I have an uncomfortable feeling it will be a Trump win. Possibly a rerun of Trump's first election, Harris narrowly wins the popular vote but Trump wins the electoral college vote. Some recent polls have shown the Harris lead pulling back to leave them neck and neck.

Michelle Obama at a rally in Michigan yesterday comparing voter expectations of Harris and Trump:

“We expect her to be intelligent and articulate, to have a clear set of policies, to never show too much anger, to prove time and time again that she belongs,” Mrs. Obama said. “But for Trump, we expect nothing at all, no understanding of policy, no ability to put together a coherent argument, no honesty, no decency, no morals.”

Probably sums up why Trump is still in the race and may win, unfortunately. The bar for him is very low.

It's an interesting phenomena. In the previous national election here, when Boris was elected, there was some late breaking news that showed his true colours. I remarked to a bloke in the office who was a clear conservative supported, educated, etc.. and his response was, "well, we all know what Boris is like, so its sort of expected as we don't mind". My response was is that the sort of person you want making decisions about your finances - someone who thinks with their d!&k. He stopped and thought for sa second or two and gace a gallic shrug and walked off. It's sort fo a confirmation bias.

Boris was helped by Labour putting up Jerremy Corbyn, who is a little too extreme for most people's likings.

Trump keeps playing the "fear of illegal immigrants that will kill all your family" card - and the Dems are too dumb to realise that's a critical factor in U.S. elections. They all live in fear of being killed by a random murderous stranger, carrying potent firearms. Trump will win, I reckon, exactly as Willie has postulated, helped by the Electoral College gerrymander.

I think the Democrats realise that alright but they can’t mount a strong counter argument because the border is chaotic and they are in charge. If they say the immigrants commit fewer crimes than the rest of the population the Trump voters and a lot if the swing voters won’t believe them and Trump will just rubbish them for it. They can’t win that argument.

Yes, even with Kamala, the deomcrats, as usual, have an uphill battle.. and like most progressive parties these days, rely on the screwups of the conservatives. This is a really difficult wone to predict. Given, despite Trumps worse failings this time around compared to 2016, Harris, can't even build a lead, let along extend one. This does point to a bit of a drubbing. However, I think maybe the polling is more accurate as people are probably more polarised and therefore more energised to tell the pollsters the truth of which way they are voting (or mot). Also, this is a contest between a former, but not sitting president, and effectively a new presidential candidate, that is currently in office of the VP. So DT actually probably has the advantage there.

One explanation is that a lot of Americans feel hopeless - so when Trump says the country is going to hell and immigrants are ruining everything, it doesn't matter that it's all bullshit, it resonates with what they feel.

Deep down they know he can't fix anything in their lives, but they don't think Kamala will either, so they'll vote for the one they relate to.

In what must be metaphorically "giving the bird" to Harris, Trump held a rally at Madison Square Garden in New York on the weekend. Trump is unlikely to win New York State.

Also, a comment in the news this morning suggested that Wall Street is getting twitchy about the election results. While the market looked becalmed, there was volatility beneath the surface in the lead-up to a nail-bitingly close presidential election and the release of pivotal jobs data this week. The measure of volatility, the so-called "fear index" the Vix Index, jumped almost 7% to 20 points — not an alarming level, but certainly not sanguine either.
