willedoo Posted November 1 Posted November 1 (edited) He'd eased off on the orange for a fair while, but photos of him in the last couple of weeks shows it caked on in volumes. He must be applying it with a trowel now. As the election gets closer, he's decided to go for double orange. old man emu Posted November 3 Posted November 3 We're a weird mob! If you think about the acceptance of gun control in Australia, there didn't seem to be much protest about it. It must have been a gradual thing. I can remember in the 60s, kids had air rifles. Shotguns and .22 rifles were commonplace. I remember my dad taking me out once to shoot kangaroos with a borrowed .303 rifle. And I went pig shooting armed with a .22. I don't know when firearms licensing came in. I can remember the gun buyback after Port Arthur. We filled a decommissioned holding cell with Otto bins stuffed full of firearms several times between pickups. After that we were often tasked with doing firearms storage checking, if we had a bit of free time between break & enters and shoppies. (Ah! The good old days when you didn't spend your shift dealing with domestics of the lowest order.) I've no interest in getting a firearms licence. I like the engineering of firearms, but don't have much interest in either hunting or target shooting. However, it's nice to know that the authorities know that the law-abiding people have at least completed some rudimentary firearms safety training, and where their firearms are located.

Or is that the Americans just shoot deer for the venison and discard the skins? Or don't they kill as many deer when hunting, as they make out? I can recall someone producing a fact that the Americans expended 50,000 rounds for every enemy death in Vietnam. Firing accuracy doesn't seem to loom large in American historical records, as noted by the regular shootouts by American police, where they expend 100's of rounds, and still don't hit any of their target, or targets. NSW and Victoria were the most regulated and Queensland and Tasmania the least. In Queensland, longarm firearm licenses and firearm registration was introduced in 1990. Concealable firearms had been restricted for decades previously. Until 1990 in Queensland you didn't need a firearm license or have to register firearms. To purchase them you had to show proof to the dealer that you were over 17 years of age. You could buy .22 calibre rifles from Kmart, sporting goods stores and camping and disposals stores without any license. It still is the domain of the states when it comes to legislation, but Howard's 1996 national agreement between the states and territories brought them mostly into line with each other. There still are some differences between the states but these days the differences are mainly regarding lower level classes like replicas and gel blasters. 1 2
