pmccarthy Posted September 11 Posted September 11 When my dad bought his FB Holden I told my mates that our new car had tick tocks. You know, that noise the indicators made when the amber tailfin lamps were flashing. Well, I was just driving my wife's 2024 Corolla Cross hybrid and realised that the sound is exactly the same. The Holden used an electromagnet and bimetallic strip in an aluminium can to switch the indicators, and the sound was an accidental consequence of that. Ever since, I suppose, makers of cars have found ways to reproduce a sound that happens to be perfect for letting you know the indicators are flashing. The Corolla must do it electronically through a speaker, but the sound is the same. 1
