red750 Posted September 26 Posted September 26 This is the old Commercial Bank of Australia Ltd branch at 708 Elizabeth St Melbourne, the opposite end of Elizabeth St to Flinders Street Station, and on the border of Carlton. Traditional design. It is proteceted by a heritage overlay. This is the architects(?) concept of the redevelopment. 1
nomadpete Posted September 26 Posted September 26 Looks like a squashed air filter element off my tractor. 1 1
spacesailor Posted September 27 Posted September 27 Still , not better than the Sydney Toaster . spacesailor 1
old man emu Posted September 27 Posted September 27 At least in Sydney they try to keep the street facade when they build skyscrapers on sites already occupied by examples of earlier architectural styles. 1
old man emu Posted September 27 Posted September 27 This reminds me of the householder who refuses to sell their house to a developer as the rest of the people in the street have, so the developer simply builds around that site and the house becomes a streetscape anomaly. 1
spacesailor Posted September 27 Posted September 27 That happened in Parramatta. A ' skyscraper ' built either side of someone's house . No sunshine in their garden . spacesailor 1
Jerry_Atrick Posted September 27 Posted September 27 I am often on realestate.com.au (yeah, I know it is Murdoch owned, but it is the best real estate website I can find in Aus, and they are making a play for a UK property site.. I reckon they should just launch in competition). Sometimes I go window shopping i fancier (by that, I mean more expensive) areas, and it proves that money does not buy style; https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-vic-canterbury-146136740 I am sure some people find them lovely, but they really are gharish monoliths, and positively make me want to puke when you consider what was once standing there (or was typical of the area, anyway). 1
onetrack Posted September 27 Posted September 27 I know that middle property above, it's on Wattleup Road, in Hammond Park, in the Southern suburbs of Perth. The family have recently caved in and now have the 2.34Ha (6 acre) property on the market. https://www.domain.com.au/news/they-refused-to-sell-as-a-whole-perth-suburb-was-built-around-them-until-now-1317152/ I recently saw a similar property in East Cannington, a South Eastern suburb. It wasn't as big, maybe an acre, but it really stood out in a surrounding sea of new housing redevelopment. https://www.google.com/maps/place/94+Gerard+St,+East+Cannington+WA+6107/@-32.0077337,115.9550643,229m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m6!3m5!1s0x2a32be9b1f7eac69:0xf7c72f38e5ad6f58!8m2!3d-32.0074481!4d115.9554611!16s%2Fg%2F11c4nrsf_g?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI0MDkyNC4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D
