King's Birthday is, in most states, in June. Cheers Chris King's Birthday is today in Queensland. Maybe it's the only state with the holiday in October. Our Labour Day is in May.

This is the first weekend you'll have off to get around your place and minimise fire risks and review your bushfire disaster plan, as well as gathering your post-fire survival kit. A good reminder. One job I need to do is to run the firefighting pump and make sure it's ok and ready to roll. Petrol goes off fairly quick these days so I've hatched a plan to periodically drain the firefighting pump's tank and refill with fresh petrol. The older stuff I can re-use in an unregistered petrol Triton I run around the property in. Another preparation is to make sure there's spare petrol on hand at all times. 2
onetrack Posted October 7 Posted October 7 (edited) In W.A., the Kings Birthday was on 23rd Sept 2024, and Labor Day is on the 1st Monday in March, which was 4th March this year. Edited October 7 by onetrack

red750 Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Victoria has no public holiday in October. Labour Day Monday 11 March Kings Birthday Monday 10 June Grand Final Pde Friday 27 September Melbourne Cup Tuesday 5 November
nomadpete Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Well there ya go. Didn't that cause a flurry! Until I looked it up, I had no idea there were so many 'Labor Days'. 1
nomadpete Posted October 7 Posted October 7 PS Sorry guys, but it looks like I wound up our chronopolice. 1

nomadpete Posted October 7 Posted October 7 The Labor Day calender and the Kings Birthday calender really highlight (dis) United States of Australia's biggest problem. The bluddy states and territories can't seem to agree on any-bludy-thing! It's a surprise that we all drive on the same side of the road! 1

Next time you watch a Western movie notice that the driver of a wagon is sitting on the right hand side. and driver walking beside the team leaders are also on the right hand side I wonder which country it was that put the driver of motor vehicles on the left. 1
onetrack Posted October 7 Posted October 7 (edited) It was the bloody French who first mandated driving on the RHS of the road, in the late 1700's - but it was Henry Ford who insisted that motor cars should be LHD, with the introduction of the Model T in 1908. A lot of American-built vehicles stayed RHD up to about 1913 - even though they were driving on the RHS of the road. Edited October 7 by onetrack 2
facthunter Posted October 8 Posted October 8 Shouldn't Queensland now be Kingsland? What a silly name for a place. All the states names should be replaced with something more appropriate and inspiring. Equally NEW South Wales. SOUTH and Western don't match though they are more sensible names they should match ie South and West Australia VICTORIA. after a long dead queen.. ??? Surely we can do better? Nev 1

facthunter Posted October 8 Posted October 8 I wouldn't want to over emphasise that. nor would I oppose some input. Nev

willedoo Posted October 8 Posted October 8 Just now, willedoo said: Also Queensland, named after Queen Victoria. Maybe 'named for' is more correct. 1
facthunter Posted October 8 Posted October 8 These names become increasingly irrelevant with the passage of time and changes to our demography. I would think the British connection has to be changed at some stage. British no longer have an EMPIRE.. WE can't BE a Colony. Nev

Lets cancel the states completely. Look at the savings just from sacking the squabbling state governments. We could be ONE NATION! (Ducks for cover) 2
facthunter Posted October 8 Posted October 8 I'd GO for more states. Less centralisation and more competition. Australia has about the same land area as the USA.. Nev 1 1

spacesailor Posted October 8 Posted October 8 King Charles, who was the ' Prince of Wales ' , gave his title to his son . WALES UK will never grow up . Otherwise , the little " principally " , would become . The ' kingdom of Wales ' . spacesailor 1

Nev There's been a push in north Queensland for many years to form a new state. I doubt the government would ever allow it as a lot of the revenue comes from the mining, agriculture and tourism in north Queensland. 1
