Now the FUN starts. Nev

Didn't know you were into S&M.

There's an American meme doing the rounds, the text of which says "Watching what is happening is like watching the fall of the Roman Empire, but with wifi." I can only agree with the sentiment.

Nah It's just the MOST mad person running the Mental Home. You might as well enjoy it. It's happening, regardless.  Nev

As long as they don't invade the Republic of Taswegia, I'm happy to stock up on food and wine and sit back to watch the story unravel.

Back to topic.

YouTube is flooded at the moment with videos announcing Trump's latest announcement, or videos explaining how many of his MAGA-directed promises will adversely affect both Americans at home and US diplomatic relations around the world. If we started posting links to all those videos, and to other media items, this thread would soon be running into the thousands of posts, and that's without any of us commenting on individual posts.

At least we can say that the owners of YouTube must be making a motza from all this Trump-related stuff.

Lets cut it short until DJT is sworn in. Until then he has done nothing but talk. After he is sworn in, he can actually carry out presidential duties whether we like it or not. Then we will have some facts to debate.

Sort of related to this thread. I was reading this Vanity Fair article - dated 1994 - and I thought to myself 'this looks like a descrition of DJT.'

"October 1994 Issue

The New Establishment: The Decline And Fall of the Eastern Empire

Perhaps more than any other single person, Henry Kissinger augured the end of the gifted amateurs of the Old Establishment. His ascension to power represented the rise of the free agent—the professional political player who brilliantly manipulated the press, played both sides of issues, and put his own agenda ahead of all others. David Halberstam pins Dr. Kissinger to the pages of history.

So the rot set in back then. The democrats failed this year because they failed to embrace the new political methods that started quite a while back.
Anything DJT says, is just part of the modern theatre that politics has become.

I get put off by the juvenile theatrics. So I  probably miss the rare gems. Most times I can't bring myself to waste so much time listening to them carry on.

That's a logical suggestion, but the tsunami of stupidity he is generating is swamping the rest of the world. We are getting the flood reports on an hourly basis.

He's alienating his next-door neighbours. He's alienating his NATO partners. He's claiming that the USA is carrying NATO. The members pledged to spend at least 2% of the value of their economies - measured by GDP - on defence per year by 2024.  Look at the members are meeting this pledge. Remember that the spending is based on the country's GDP, so of course the USA spends more.  It had GDP equal to all the rest of the members of NATO in 2024,

Map showing defence spending by Nato members in Europe. Poland and Estonia had the highest spending as a % of GDP among European members.

He's destroying essential trade with them nasty Chinese Commies. Once he learns that countries like Brazil and Argentina are starting to trade heavily in agricultural produce (mainly wheat) with China, resulting in the loss of sales for those farmers in the States that voted him in, he'll be facing revolts.

He continues to inflame the various situations in the Middle East. We don't hear him speaking too much about South America or Africa. At least the Australian government took a step away by supporting the vote in the UN for Palestinian sovereignty. I would hope that our government could have the guts to send Trump this T-shirt as a Christmas gift, but the wording might be too subtle for him to comprehend.

Don't Be A Richard Cranium Dick Head ...

Then we hear about what he wants to do within the borders of the USA. What he wants to do is an attack on the very people he conned into voting for him and his mates.

Don't be  a Don Key would be better. HE wouldn't know  what  a cranium was.. In his case it's a $#!t container. Tell HIM the USA is only PART of the world that thinks it can make the Rest of the World do as it wants  We will be ordered to put tariffs on too.  Remember BUSH?  Those who are not with US are against US.  It was "the Alliance of the Willing and Co-erced".  Nev

At this point I am not particularly worried. Since 90% of what he says is BS, I tune him out. Otherwise I start fretting about each silly thing he says.

I am fully aware that next year will bring some frightening changes that affect the world. But until they happen Nobody really knows what!

Since I have absolutely no control over it, I defer my worry until then.

If he bungs tariffs on us, then maybe we should up the rent on his military bases here, and also tell him we don't want his submarines, and go back to France to get them, or any other number of democratic countries that build them.

Let's drag this placard out from the back of the wardrobe: Fichier:Yankee-go-home.jpg — Wikipédia

Probably correct, but that's a bit like being repeatedly hit over the head with a wet fish and ignoring the smell.
