Having botched the COVID response Trump now seeks to appoint a rabid anti-vaxxer to head the Department of Health and Human Services.   He seeks to appoint someone with little experience running a huge department such as Defence, even though he seems to have many serious character flaws.

I find it hard to understand how anyone can listen to Trump and not think he is deluded. Remember this

Trump suggests 'injection' of disinfectant to beat coronavirus and 'clean' the lungs

Whilst many politicians over-promise and under-deliver Trump excels at this "going to build a big beautiful wall and the Mexicans are going to pay for it" Of course this never happened. This from his last term so maybe be we should consider current promises.  End the war in Ukraine within 24 hours?     End inflation although he is now walking that one back.  Make Canada the 51st state?   Take over Greenland?   He even refused to rule out economic OR military means.  He thinks windmills kill whales.  He thinks that tariffs are a tax on other countries.  He claims he will deport millions of undocumented workers without taking into account those businesses that rely on these people to do jobs that  Americans won't do.

Business owners warn Trump’s deportation plan could shut them down

Turning back the clock regarding a woman's right to choose.  He wants to bring back prayer to school and remove drugs but doesn't seem to give a sh1t about the proliferation of guns.

To me, a great leader needs many qualities but an important one is humility. The man literally cannot say anything without telling how wonderful Trump is.   "My last inauguration, the biggest crowd ever, everyone says that, there has never been a crowd bigger"  He can't even accept that in 2020 he lost.  If you search out concession speeches from past presidents Dem or GOP they are magnanimous in accepting the result.

In my opinion, he does not have the character for the job.

That's an opinion shared by many world leaders, political commentators, and any village idiot with more than one brain cell.

And yet, Penny Wong is attending Trump's inauguration. She's selling herself out to Trump? I can't believe it. I'm waiting to see if she backs out of it, seen nothing so far.

All "left wingism" is, is having a social conscience and not deserting the less fortunate

But not for ex conscripts when Whitlam got in in 72, everyone deserted us, the left, the right, and the center. There were thousands of us, thrown on the junk heap by all parties, and we still are.

, Blame the rotten Newspapers for a lot of that. Your Country forced you to go to war. To treat returnees as was done to you is a disgrace but the People themselves who turned out to throw red paint and other reprehensible acts were NOT forced to do it and should not have. I completely understand you for being thoroughly pissed off and even the rotten RSL wouldn't acknowledge you.. You Got a $#!t deal. .I know quite a few people in your position who are far from amused.. Justifiably so.  Nev

But you understand though that left wingism does not always have social conscience and not deserting the less fortunate. It usually depends on which way the political social wind us blowing. The left campaigned to stop conscription, but did nothing about the wrecked lives. The major parties are just waiting for us to die off so they don't have to think about it any more, typical of the Labor party and the Coalition.

Hold up.

"The left campaigned to stop conscription, but did nothing about the wrecked lives."

Did the right do anything about either conscription or the wrecked lives?

If not - why are you down on the left? At least they did something.

Neither the left nor the right did anything for us after 1972. That's what I meant.

What has Donald Trump promised to do on day one of his second term?

Well we have been bombarded with what he will do on 'day one'.

What will Donald J Trump do on day two?

Probably golf.

Because he did everyting important on day one!

Day One of the new Trump Presidency will be the same as every other day of a Trump Presidency - utter chaos, lots of social media posts about how great he is, lots of abuse and vicious invective for his stated "enemies".

Penny Wong had better have some good experience in how to deal with a petulant 3 yr old, with a 20 second attention span - because that's precisely what Trump would be like to deal with. And if she plays golf with him, she has to allow him to win.

Penny Wong will ask him for his autograph and a round of golf.

Well, given the first article, I think if Penny does that, she shoes a nous in international diplomacy not attributable to many others.

Her brain is telling her that he's a man "I admire and respect for his stance on preventing the United States from getting involved in unnecessary wars, and helping to free the hostages in Gaza"

So she's got an imagination too.

If she's a good politician she'll know when to suck up to blowhards like the orange clown for the benefit of our country.

Personally she may think he's a retarded dick head like most of the world does, but she knows how to handle him.

I am not even sure if Wong will be meeting Trump

"Senator Wong confirmed she and Mr Rudd would attend Trump's swearing-in ceremony on January 20 and would meet with members of the Trump administration and congress during her visit."

Trump has signalled that he wishes to use tariffs against other countries. During Trump's first administration, he intended to impose tariffs on our steel but was dissuaded during a visit by Turnbull.   Wong going to the inauguration is not the "Gothca" moment you think it is GON   Trump does not give a toss about Australia therefore it is the job of our politicians (from all sides) to work to lesson the damage to Australia.
