I wonder what the statistic is for Australians.

Of those Australians who care to think about US politics, I reckon 50-50 could be possible. There is a lot of us here who have little regard for Trump. Who see his faults and are prepared to call him out over them. On the other hand, there are those, not necessarily here, who admire him. Dutton is one. I was reading the Sydney Sunday Telegraph this week and that paper is fully behind Trump.

At least right here were are prepared to agree to disagree without going beyond putting down our side of the argument in writing, and, best of all, playing the ball not the player.

I don't hate Trump personally and he won the election fair and square. I just think he is a lowlife. Even that wouldn't matter if he didn't have so much power.

I think Trump is most of the things that Ovtave said. But I also think he is so far achieving a lot and may be very good for aamerica and even for the world. I hope he is going to take Putin on and force himself to back down in Ukraine.

We have already had referecnes to his progress against promised made when he was in power last. And guess what, some he kept, some he didn't at all, and some partially; about the same as any other political party/leader.

I am intrigued that "half" the Americans think Trump is worth having but on this forum we only have Trump haters. I wonder what the statistic is for Australians.

I would also guess, for Australia, it may (or since he has taken office, especially with his empty Gaza of Palestinians for a while) or many not be 50-50..

But to say half the Amercians think Trump is worth having, is probably a misnomer. Voters these days are more focused in voting for the least worst option, or punishing the incumbents than wanting the other side: https://apnews.com/article/global-elections-2024-incumbents-defeated-c80fbd4e667de86fe08aac025b333f95

When Biden was running, there was a lot made about how no one wanted either candidate. Notjing to suggest they all suddenly thought he was worth having.

Trump won because he got the most electoral college votes. He also won because he got the most votes of any candidate (the popular vote), but more than 50% of the voters didn't vote for him and only 64% of eligible voters actually voted.

According to Trump that is a landslide victory, NOT.

Take Putin on?

Seriously?

Putin knows Trump is a clown.  He's about as much threat to Putin as slap with a wet lettuce (with apologies to Keating for mangling his quote).

"Trumps approval rating is higher now than in his entire first term"

Yes, it’s about 48% and likely to be going down soon when the voters rediscover what a moron he is. Not much to brag about.

Trump will more likely side with Putin against Ukraine. He doesn’t like Zelensky. Putin has no respect for Trump and Trump is out of his depth against Putin but doesn’t know it.

Trump thinks he's the worlds great DEAL MAKER. He makes deals alright, but only to benefit himself, no-one else.

Putin will offer Trump a "GREAT DEAL" by allowing Trump to do something like build hotels and golf courses in Russia, and that will immediately send Trump into high praise for Putin, and start him off parroting all the Putin diatribe, about how Russia fears for its existence against the war-mongering West, so it HAS to arm itself and try to "protect" its borders against the Nazis who want to take over Russia.

Then Putin will be grinning like a fox, as Trump turns his invective and nastiness onto Zelinsky, and Trump will tell Zelinsky to hand back all that "illegal" Russian territory Ukraine has held for years.

With a bit of luck, and with more backing from the NATO countries, Zelinsky just might tell Trump to shove his attitude and his outrageous demands.

I have to agree... sometimes in international diplomacy, especially with Putin and co., a tougher stance is needed. His threatening of implementing much tougher sanctions against Russia is a good start; Biden was afraid of upsetting world oil markets.. which is fair enough in one way, but at some stage, part of being in a society means having to swallow bitter pills for the greater good. Without putting boots on the ground, hard sanctions is a better way to go..

But, while Zelensky is saying Trump has Ukraine's back, I wouldn't count on it. if Trump plays hard man and Putin calls his bliff, or China gets involved, either by helping Russia amelioate the sanctions, or more actively/aggresively, then Trump is likely to change his tune. Like Putin, he can't back down and he certainly doesn't want to commit US troops to the effort. So, in order to extricate himslef and not look to be beaten, he will probably force Ukraine to gice up territory. That will allow Putin to also save face.. He will market it as a success and a win because he has stoped the war. It is like saying to a thief, if you give yourself up I won't prosecute you and you can keep what you stole.

Colombia turned the US military aircraft away as the deportees were treated as criminals with hand and foot restraints. These people are Colombian citizens and deserve to be treated with respect which is why Petro changed his mind and is sending Colombian aircraft to pick them up. How do you think our government would react if the same thing happened to Australians who found themselves in a similar predicament?

They may not have had the appropriate documentation to be in the US but they had jobs, families, homes and lifestyles. There are about 12 million illegal immigrants in the US. If they all get deported who is going to do all the work?

Colombia has taken back immigrants in the past without all the controversy.

Colombia has accepted deportation flights from the US in the past. In 2024, 124 planes carrying deported migrants from the US landed in the country.

But President Petro appeared to object to the return of deportees on military rather than civilian flights - and to the way the migrants may be treated on those military flights.

Trump and some of his followers are only happy when Trump as bully.  You might say who cares?   We live in a world where China is challenging the US for power and influence.  The US being world bully only serves to drive countries towards China.    For Trump respectful negotiation is of the table. His brand is being obnoxious.  If you believe that Trump achieved a great coup by returning these immigrants then surely you should have even more praise for the previous administration who returned  124 planes in 2024.
