pmccarthy Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Greenland has (I think) 52,000 inhabitants, and they really don't like the Danes. Give them a million dollars each and they could vote for independence, then sign up as a US state. A good deal for $52 billion. 1
rgmwa Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Why would they want to swap the Danes for the Americans? If they want to be independent and know they sitting on massive natural resources, why would they give that away just to become another US state, especially the way the US is self-destructing under the new management. 2

pmccarthy Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago They would want the $1M each. As most have families, this could be $4-5M for many. And then the benefits of being US citizens. I reckon they would queue up. 1 1

In this scenario who would do the essential low-paid jobs? A society full of millionaires still needs people to fill holes in the road and someone to wipe the arses of the elderly in care. Would a society of millionaires be a nice place to live? 1 1

red750 Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago That's alright then. The world is safe - just like the US Social Security system.

red750 Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago President Donald Trump issued a chilling warning to Iran if the Middle Eastern nation tried to assassinate him. Trump signed an order in the Oval Office Tuesday that detailed a 'maximum pressure' campaign, as he worked to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon. The president said he was 'torn' when signing the order - which prompted the question why he was hesitant when Iranian leaders have threatened to assassinate Trump and his allies over the U.S. killing of Quds force leader Qasem Soleimani. 'If they did that, they would be obliterated,' Trump responded. 'I have left instructions. If they do it, they get obliterated, there won't be anything left.' When asked to clarify his comments, the president made the same threat. 'That would be called total obliteration,' Trump said. 'I can't imagine they would do that,' he also commented.
onetrack Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Trump closing off the "de minimis" import tax loophole is no different to the ATO making us pay GST on nearly every single item that comes into Australia, whereas previously, imports under $1000 were GST free. The only way of getting around that ATO tax is by finding a seller who does little business in Australia (under the GST limit, $75,000) - but that is increasingly harder to do.
rgmwa Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago 7 minutes ago, red750 said: 'If they did that, they would be obliterated,' Trump responded. 'I have left instructions. If they do it, they get obliterated, there won't be anything left.' That's an empty threat because he can't leave posthumous instructions. If he's dead, he's no longer the president so his orders in the envelope on his desk are meaningless. 1 1
