onetrack Posted February 16 Posted February 16 The ABC News has a good article today about Trumps tariffs on Australian aluminium. Albo needs to grow some balls and stop trying to negotiate with Trump. There's no negotiating with an arsehole like Trump, Albo needs to take a leaf out of Crysta Freelands playbook - ""I have a message today for President Trump. If you force our hand, we will inflict the biggest trade blow that the United States has ever endured," Freeland said this week. Trump needs to learn, that if he wants to kick another countries arse, he'll get a retaliatory kick in the nuts, that will stop him from walking for months. old man emu Posted February 16 Author Posted February 16 If Trump continues on his present course, which is very likely to impact Australia's economy, should some consideration be given to Australia's abandoning the G7 and moving towards BRICS. BRICS is an intergovernmental organization consisting of ten countries—Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates. It is considered to be a counterpart and alternative to the G7 bloc of the world's largest economies and combined represent nearly half of the world's population. Some in the West consider BRICS institutions an alternative to institutions such as those led by nations of the G7 bloc, which are among the world's leading economies. Others describe the grouping as an incoherent joining of countries around increasing anti-Western and anti-American objectives. Here's a link to an interesting, seemingly non-biased, for and against article examining what approach Australia should take towards BRICS in light of the current geopolitical situation. https://www.constructor.net.au/a-case-for-and-against-australia-joining-brics/ 1
onetrack Posted February 16 Posted February 16 (edited) Quote Do American troops stationed in Australia have Entry Visas? No, not in the civilian style. They enter the country on a special Military visa. U.S. soldiers entering Australia have to; 1. Present an up-to-date military ID card 2. Present movement orders that specify travel to Australia as part of their duties 3. Provide a copy of their official orders and passport with SOFA stamp to the 337 ASUF/JA SOFA is a Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA), an agreement between countries that allows one country to station military forces in the other. 337 ASUF/JA is the 337th Air Support U.S. Flight base/Judge Advocate in Yokota, Japan, which is the support unit for U.S. troops entering Australia. onetrack Posted February 16 Posted February 16 We just need to impose a suitable "entry charge" for every American serviceman coming here to play war games, or for R&R.

octave Posted February 16 Posted February 16 (edited) Trump/Musk, so f******* dumb that they fired the people who oversee the safety of the nation's nuclear weapons only to attempt to rehire them when they realized their stupidity. Trump officials fired nuclear staff not realizing they oversee the country’s weapons stockpile, sources say This is what happens when you cut with a chainsaw rather than a scalpel. octave Posted Monday at 11:15 PM Posted Monday at 11:15 PM Trump begins firings of FAA air traffic control staff just weeks after fatal DC plane crash Hundreds fired at aviation safety agency, union says 1
rgmwa Posted Tuesday at 12:35 AM Posted Tuesday at 12:35 AM With Musk and Trump firing several hundred thousand one to two year probationary staff across a lot of different agencies, there will be a staffing, experience and expertise gap that is going to roll through these organisations in coming years. That corporate knowledge and expertise that older staff have will not be transferred to younger people. It’s a very short-sighted policy. It happened in our industry years ago when university entrants flocked to IT and Law, and engineering intake dropped off very significantly. It eventually picked up again but there was a long period when we could not find engineers with 5-10 years experience. That gap took years to resolve. 1
octave Posted Tuesday at 12:59 AM Posted Tuesday at 12:59 AM I have been doing some hardcore reading. Project 2025 is the playbook for the new government and it is frankly pretty scary. It is a 920 page document. The problem regarding the FAA (and other departments) is that Project 2025 calls for a purge of all government workers and where workers are replaced it is with Trump loyalists. "WASHINGTON (AP) — Job-seekers hoping to join the new Trump administration are facing a series of intense loyalty tests, with White House screening teams fanning out to government agencies to check for “Make America Great Again” bona fides and carefully parsing applicants’ politics and social media posts. President Donald Trump has long said he believes the biggest mistake he made during his first term was hiring what he considered to be the wrong kinds of people. Now, aides are working aggressively to ensure the government is filled only with loyalists. Negative social media posts have been enough to derail applications. Those seeking jobs have been told they will have to prove their “enthusiasm” to enact Trump’s agenda and have been asked when their moment of “MAGA revelation” occurred. One federal employee said they briefly considered buying Trump’s crypto meme coin in case the president’s team asked about their voting record." A strength of many Western government systems is the neutrality of the public service. What does a Trump loyalist aviation say if an accident is contributed to an accident? Trump is so insecure that criticizing him in any way gets you excommunicated. The other side of the coin is kissing his big orange ass gets you a job. Example trump only a few months ago said of RF Kennedy. "Kennedy is a Radical Left Democrat, and always will be!!! It's great for MAGA, but the Communists will make it very hard for him to get on the Ballot," Trump posted on his social media platform in March." And yet Kennedy is apparently the man for the health department. Did Kennedy change? No, when he pulled out of the presidential race he pledged support for Trump. It was purely transactional. Trump does not give a sh1t about the country. it is all about stroking his fragile ego. 2 1
Grumpy Old Nasho Posted Tuesday at 01:10 AM Posted Tuesday at 01:10 AM It doesn't matter much as long as the illegals are stopped, there's a halt to the Ukraine war, and the hostages are handed back.
rgmwa Posted Tuesday at 01:13 AM Posted Tuesday at 01:13 AM The thing about Project 2025’s manifesto is that it’s not Trump’s work. The long term threat is from those sitting quietly behind Trump who are intent on cementing an undemocratic future for America. Although Trump is an enthusiastic advocate, he is only there for the short term and mainly interested in boosting his own importance and wealth. He’s not a deep thinker. 1 1 1
