rgmwa Posted Monday at 10:32 PM Posted Monday at 10:32 PM I’m not disagreeing with what Turnbull said. He’s quite right. But as an ex-PM he shouldn’t be making himself a kind of de facto spokesman for Australia knowing that the government has to deal with Trump and his tariff threats. All he’s doing is making negotiating with Trump harder. It’s shortsighted on his part, notwithstanding that what he’s saying is right. 1
old man emu Posted yesterday at 12:18 AM Author Posted yesterday at 12:18 AM It begs the question, "Why did Blomberg ask Turnbull to participate in the interview at all?" Surely Blomberg thought that he had something relevant to say. Obviously the problem is not with what Turnbull said, but that he dared say something negative about a Trump policy. 1
rgmwa Posted yesterday at 01:09 AM Posted yesterday at 01:09 AM What he said was relevant and accurate but not very smart given how easily Trump takes offence. It will simply make him more determined to apply his tariffs to us. As an ex-PM, what Turnbull says gets noticed. Public comments like that are not very helpful when the government of the day has to negotiate with a vindictive narcissist to get the best trade terms for the country. 1
facthunter Posted yesterday at 01:46 AM Posted yesterday at 01:46 AM You are just repeating yourself. rgmwa. I like to hear what Turnbull thinks about current things At least HE does THINK and is respectful and eloquent. In sharp contrast to the Orange Oaf who can't put a sentence together. Nev 1

But the fact remains that DOGE took people who were working, made them stop working then paid for no work. Not very efficient Elon. I think DOGE should audit itself and cut the fathead from the top. 2

old man emu Posted yesterday at 03:14 AM Author Posted yesterday at 03:14 AM Didn't Malcolm voice exactly what we have been saying in this forum? It just so happens that Malcolm is more widely known than any one of us here, and, for the most part, would be more knowledgeable about international economics. Therefore he would be a better interview subject than any one of us. While it is quite true that Malcolm now only has the same political power that each of us has, since he is a private citizen using his right to free speech, is that any reason for Trump to attack him in 'print'? 1 1
red750 Posted yesterday at 03:57 AM Posted yesterday at 03:57 AM Sorry. I was at the cardiologist for a post-procedure wound check. I have removed the deleted repeat posts. He ripped the dressing off, said all OK, another checkup in 3 months. 3 1

Marty_d Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago Not to mention that every time he goes to Mar-a-lager or whatever it is - instead of staying in the white house or Camp David like a normal president - the local police force runs out of funding from all the security work, the Coast guard has to station 2 boats nearby, and he charges the secret service exorbitantly for staying at his resort. 1 1 1
nomadpete Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Aww, c'mon all that's just the perks of office - expected by all presidentes 1
red750 Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago The arsehole has doubled down on his 25% tariff on steel and alumium. We should double our rental for the US military bases in Australia, that is if they pay any rental. The same with the Pine Gap tracking centre and others. 1 2
facthunter Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago The cost of his Golf Obsession to the Taxpayers is OBSCENE. A Flying Block of Flats just to Carry Him and His EGO around? Nev 1

We should double our rental for the US military bases in Australia, that is if they pay any rental. The same with the Pine Gap tracking centre and others. All the talk is about aluminium and steel is one thing, but what about agriculture products? In 2023-24, exports from Australia climbed $1.2 billion (+21.2 per cent) to $6.8 billion in value, moving them above Japan to be the second largest market. Growth was mostly driven by a lift in beef exports which jumped $1.4 billion (+70.5 per cent). Lamb, dairy and wine export values also recorded year-on-year increases to offer support. The problem with Trump's tariffs is not their quantum, but Trump's inconsistency of implementation. He's already held off for nearly two months on what he said he said he would do on Day 1. What is he going to do with them next week? Nobody can make stable plans in a chaotic environment. 1

old man emu Posted 5 hours ago Author Posted 5 hours ago Dutton has just announced that if his mob win the election, he'll get a deal on tariffs with Trump. How? Here is the Australian Government's current position on this topic. 1
Grumpy Old Nasho Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago The tariffs on aluminium and steel wouldn't be much in terms of total cost to Australia because not much of those products go to the US. Albanese would have been brought up to speed by the multinationals that produce them here, with an assertion that they know best how to handle Trump and Albo needn't worry his little head over it. I could tell all along that those tariffs weren't going to affect Australia greatly, and Albo has just reassured us by saying there's no need for Aust to reciprocate. So there you go. 1 1
