Jeezuz! I'm agreeing with GON!

Australia exported $640 million worth of steel and $440 million of aluminium last year to the United States. In the scheme of things that's not much. However, what about the agricultural exports? That'd be where we will be hit if the tariff is 25% on everything.

It will be on EVERYTHING that WE export to the USA BEEF Lamb etc. Keep up with the Latest on this.

USA hamburgers are full of good Aussi BEEF The USA can't produce enough of it and haven't been able to for ages.. It will just put the PRICES UP on beef Lamb.  is a different matter. WE will have to find other Markets. This has far reaching effects across many parts of Australia.    Nev

Whoa!! Hasn't anyone told the Don that the price of good ol' hamburgers is going to skyrocket, once he whacks a 25% tariff on Australian Beef? That's going to hit home, right at the White House!!

But Trump personally doesn't pay for anything.

Bet he doesn't even pay for the Tesla that he's "buying" in order to help his paymaster to get over all those nasty lefties who are boycotting his products.

Trump was very critical of Harley sourcing parts from Overseas a few months ago. Trump's "SMALL" govt wants to micro manage USA  Companies. Wheels and castings were done in SA at one stage. The Orange Oaf will stuff it up by increasing costs and prices in the USA.  or bring on another depression..   Nev

Part of a governments duty is to provide essential services like health, transport infrastructre, social security, research, etc. Running these services is certainly an expense, but is it a waste? Sure, shutting them down like President Musk is doing will save money, initially, but what will it cost in the long run?

There's steadily rising anger at Musk's "slash-and-burn" terminations of agencies and employees. The Veterans Affairs administration is one area that is being targeted for "waste".

It appears Musk and Trump believe Veterans are malingerers and bludgers, and a burden on society, and they have to go and work, rather than get treatment and accept compensation for war injuries - which injuries often make them unable to work full time.

Mental health treatment should always be part of veterans treatment, and suicides amongst U.S. veterans are causing concern - even to the new VA administration. But the Musk and Trump cuts are going right to mental health treatment for veterans.

However, the newly-appointed (by Trump) head honcho of VA is one Doug Collins - a former U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force chaplain - and in civilian life, a lawyer who defended Trump against his impeachment. He's setting out to fire 80,000 employees from VA. To do this, with the level of damaged war veterans the U.S. has, can only mean reduced services and benefits for veterans.

How this gent, with his lack of major public service administration, got this job, is eyebrow raising. He got it simply because he's a Trump ar**-licker, and for no other reason - and his primary aim is to reduce VA to a shell of what it is now. Interestingly, somewhere around 25% of VA employees are former Veterans.

Collins is effectively saying VA is just a big job-creation scheme for injured veterans, which is creating massive anger amongst the veterans and their supporters.

In this interview (below), Doug Collins come across as a typical Trump BS-artist, couching dismantling of the VA Dept in waffle-speak, bouncing around with unrelated sentences, and trying to appear like he actually cares for veterans, when he doesn't. It is purely disingenuous lawyer-speak or political-speak, and nothing else.

It's interesting to note that many "home-terrorism" attacks and murders in the U.S. were carried out by mentally-scarred veterans who did not receive the treatment they really needed.

Amongst those attacks and murders is the greatest act of U.S. home-grown terrorism, the Oklahoma City bombing, which killed 168 people, and which was carried out by two deranged veterans.

You think it's any better for veterans here onetrack? Look in your own backyard first. Matt Keogh just said, "Australian veterans won't be getting the generous medical treatment US veterans get. We've got to look at treatment for veterans in Australia from an Australian context"

We all know what that means, don't we? Very selective treatment for a select few veterans. That's what it means.

This is in spite of what Trump's doing, Trump is cutting costs. But US veterans still get treatment as always. Keogh is only shunning ours. If you think Trump is bad, then Keogh is a miserly bastard who sees veterans as political mileage for the Labor party.

So, Trump bought a shiny red Tesla model S to show his support for his BFF Elon Musk, but he's not allowed to drive it. American presidents are forbidden to drive themselves.

A senior member of Donald Trump's cabinet has accused Australia of dumping cheap aluminium on the United States as justification for its 25 per cent import tariffs.

While the US has a trade surplus with Australia, US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has accused Australia of flooding the United States with cheap aluminium in a bid to undercut American manufacturers.

'Look, you've got dumpers in the rest of the world,' he told Fox Business.

'Japan dumps steel. China dumps steel. What that means is, they make it, they overproduce and they sell it dirt cheap, to drive our guys out of business.

'The President is here to protect American workers. He's here to protect American industry. We're going to stop that nonsense and bring steel here.

'So, this concept that, oh, prices are going to rise … you've got to remember, President Trump is playing for the strength of America.

'We're not going to stand for China, dumping, Japan dumping, or Australia does a lot of aluminum below cost.

'This has got to end and the President is on it.'

A political science academic in the US said recently about Trump’s attitude to former allies that, “Trump is so obsessed with the problem of free riders that he forgets that it was in America’s interest to drive the bus”. Sums the current tariff and slash and burn debacle up pretty well.
