Trump wants 'big military parade' from Pentagon to White House for his 79th birthday

 

President Donald Trump reportedly wants a 'big military parade' to mark the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army - a date the coincides with his 79th birthday. 

 

The Washington City Paper reported Sunday that the Trump Administration is looking at holding a parade on June 14th, which is also Flag Day.

 

It would start at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia and move into Washington, D.C., concluding at the White House, a source told the alt-weekly. 

 

A White House official told DailyMail.com that 'no military parade has been scheduled.' 

 

That same official did not respond when asked if one was being planned. 

 

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said at a press conference Monday that she wasn't sure if it was being described as a military parade - but confirmed a parade had been pitched to the D.C. government. 

 

'I don't know if it's been characterized as a military parade, but maybe it has, I haven't been directly involved in it yet. I understand that I think it was Homeland Security maybe the White House reached out to our special events taskforce, which is what most people wanting to do a parade to in the District,' Bowser said. 

 

'So I would say that it's at its early stages, yes they have reached out, I don't know if it's being characterized as a military parade,' she added.

BTW, some economic commentators are framing this story as market manipulation on a grand scale - effectively insider trading or trash and cash - take your pick Chump knew when her was going to pause the tariffs, likely to know that they would have resulted in a rally on the stock market, posted on his social media site that now is a good time to buy and some other cryptic message he is about to make an announcement. And hey presto - he makes the announcement, stocks go up, lots of people profit.

 As much as I hate saying it, I think I could develop a defence of "plausible deniability" that his tweet about its being a good time to buy was not market manipulation but a call for people to hold steady and trust the market to recover because he was going to make America great again. However, I am also cynical enough to believe he was into market manipulation for the benefit of billionaires.

 

As for insider trading, how far removed must someone be from a public company to not be considered an insider? It's easy to determine for a single company, but when it might involve the complete share board, how far away must one be?

Of course, I haven't fact checked it, and there may be nuance's that make it more doubtful, but Chump would have known the effects of pausing given the effects of implementing... And In any case, there is no general requirement to prove mens rea (guilty mind) in a market manipulation case.. As long as you conducted it, you are generally liable.

 

Proximity to the public company (you can have inside trading on private companies, where they have publicly issued bonds, for example) does not generally come into the question of insider trading. It is a question of whether you are trading on asymmetric information - i.e. material non-public information. The material bit means would it affect the rice investors are willing to pay if they have that information. Now, technically, there is another type of market abuse called front running, which for all intents and purposes is the same.. And there are many cases where say a trader or executive's friends and/or relatives have been convicted of insider trading even though they have nothing to do with the company (officially called the issuer), but have been in receipt of that material non-public information when they have traded.

 

But, I don't think this is insider trading because it doesn't pertain to any one issuer. It is a mass movement of the market prices amongst a lot of companies/issuers. So there is another market abuse scenario, trash and cash - where you take action (usually through rumours, but POTUS has more levers to pull than traders), and then buy up when you have trashed the market. Then the levers to trash the market have stopped being pulled and the market returns to its normal price.. you have earned a nice little profit, and if, in starting out with the tariffs this was not his intention, one can't help but think that pausing them he and his cohorts would have known the effect and if they traded ahead of him doing it, knowing he would do it, that would be the crime of market abuse through trash and cash.

 

If he gave anyone a reasonable indication that he was going to pause the tariffs, and they traded on it before he announced it, then they are likely guilty of market abuse and should go to jail given the sums involved, with extra penalties for abusing the mechanisms of the USA as well as the position of privilege (the POTUS) to commit it . Also, Chump would be guilty even if he didn't trade for facilitating it and not taking the requisite steps to ensure they did not trade on that information.

Only for things that are within the outer bounds of his responsibilities as president. Insider trading might be a hard one to argue but apart from the.Democrats getting upset, nothing will happen.

It is possible to put an interpretation on Trump's tweet that it was a good time to buy as being a call to not panic sell, but to keep buying to maintain the value of the market. That is a good thing for the leader of a country to urge. Such an interpretation is very kind towards Trump. While it is a possibility, I doubt its probability, given our opinion of the man.

 

The only way to prove illegal activity by Trump would be through the discovery of tape recordings, a la Nixon. But I doubt if there is much record keeping of private conversations involving Trump.

Here's an interesting article from Politico, showing how the Chinese are not total fools, they're targeting MAGA homelands with total blockages of U.S. imports, thanks to clever manipulation of health and food safety rulings.

These people are shrewd traders and they have 5000 years of trading experience, Trump and his MAGA idiots have only a few dozen decades of global trading experience, and the Chinese aren't about to let their economy suffer by the actions of one U.S. Presidents chaotic decision-making.
