(Slight diversion: I have the same problem texting. I've changed to using voice to text. I mentioned it at the Shed, and a mate got Siri to type the text then read it back to check she got it right before sending. That may help you.)

Everyone growing up together?  Nev

Yeah I think she was the main "parent" to both her 16yo and the 16yo's baby.  Besides working full time.  Wouldn't have been fun.

Sounds like pure propaganda that he wrote himself. I love this piece of pure drivel in the article (below) .... he lives solely to keep garnering more and more wealth, at the expense of the average Joe.

"The revelation underscores Musk’s belief in living frugally despite his current wealth. He has often emphasized that material possessions do not define success. Instead, he prioritizes investing in ideas that push the boundaries of human potential."

He's quite happy to turn thousands of loyal Govt employees out onto the street, jobless, while he continues to increase his own wealth. He's just another version of Trump, they love having the power over millions of people by simply saying, "You're fired!!".

That is total BS... He was born into a family of very wealthy diamind miners/brokers; his father is quoted as saying they have so much money they don't know what to do with it (I don't know if that quote is true).

There are stories where he chooses to live below the poverty line at times, including with a hole in the mattress, but that is not living below the poverty line.

However, it is not entirely improbably that his father, as part of conditioning him, made him live for a short time on a meagre subsistence to hone his desire for money.. but outside of that article, sunch information, at least on the internet, I can't find anything of substance (it was how I found out apparently he sometimes chooses to live like he is below the poverty line).

Musk helped fire hundreds of FAA workers. Now, his SpaceX employees could fill the void

No doubt the use of Space X employees will not be free of charge.  This appears to me to be a massive conflict of interest.  He sacks all the workers and then offers to replace them with his own.

To be clear I think that Space X has achieved amazing things within the space industry. There are brilliant people working there.  But do I want Space X to perform surgery on me? No, I don't because this is not where their expertise lies.

Aviation is a conservative area. Change needs to occur incrementally not by tearing down the whole system. ATC also needs to be somewhat standardised around the world. Is Space X going to come to Australia and redesign our ATC system?  I am sceptical that Space X has the expertise to redesign ATC. Build rockets - sure, transport astronauts to ISS - yep .

If anyone thinks this is about saving money; it ain't. It is about privatisation by stealth. What better way to get lucrative government contracts than by torching the government and have someone come in to fill the void for a fee of course.

And who is going to be more loyal than young impressionable employees.

Yeah, there is an element of sticking in some republican loyalists because they know even in a change of government, the Democrats won't torch the system. But for the likes of Musk, nit is about the money.

As Franklin Roosevelt said, there are no accidents in politics; if it happened, you can bet it was planned to happen.

Well according to the news today, the Trump administration has said that Musk is only an "advisor" and is not in charge of DOGE.

So who IS in charge of DOGE, and why has DOGE hired Musk's 19yo gophers?

Apparently the head of the US Social Security department, which makes payments to millions of people, has resigned after resisting DOGE efforts to access sensitive data.

Closing down the US Social Security Department is the modern application of the comment, "Let them eat cake".

"Let them eat cake" is the traditional translation of the French phrase "Qu'ils mangent de la brioche", said to have been spoken in the 18th century by "a great princess" upon being told that the peasants had no bread. The French phrase mentions brioche, a bread enriched with butter and eggs, considered a luxury food. The quote is taken to reflect either the princess's frivolous disregard for the starving peasants or her poor understanding of their plight. Now it's often used to describe someone who is out of touch with the needs of others, as Trump and Musk obviously are.

Attributed to Marie-Antoinette, the phrase can actually be traced back to Jean-Jacques Rousseau's Confessions in 1765, 24 years prior to the French Revolution, and when Antoinette was nine years old and had never been to France. Rousseau does not name the "great princess", and he may have invented the anecdote altogether, as the Confessions is not considered entirely factual.
