A viral link being circulated through social media, included Twitter, is shutting down people’s iPhones and computers and forcing them to reboot.

9To5Mac issued a warning today about the website that is going viral as people are trying to trick unsuspecting folk into crashing their device.

If you click on a link to the website CrashSafari.com with an iPhone or Mac, a JavaScript code on the website will force your iPhone to reboot and crash your Mac.

While the name of the website does give fair warning, the problem is people are sharing it online as a shortened link that disguises the web address.

9To5Mac said the website does not damage the device but crashing a phone or computer can cause you to lose the tabs you have opened in a browser and to lose any unsaved work.

A search of Twitter reveals that some people are being upfront about sharing the link that will crash a device, while others are disguising the link with clickbait promises, such as the answers to every test and promises of pornography.

While the link clearly has been designed to attack Apple users, people have reported it has also affected other browsers on Windows machines.

I've had to work on a laptop all day because my PC got mucked up by something messing with the Registry. Luckily my IT Expert son (and he really is) managed to spare some time. He had to re-install Windows and now I've lost all my bookmarks in Google. I suppose I should have cleaned that out ages ago anyway.

I can sympathise with those whose gear using whatever operating system goes down because of hackers.

OME

OME..

The moment I get a new laptop I remove all the crap, install software, do updates then create a system image so if it ever crashes it will be restored to the day I first set it up.

Then I have another ongoing backup so if there is a minor crash I can restore it to the previous day, this auto backup is done every time I plug in the external hard drive spacer.png

I'm planning on hacking into my Falcon Wagons computer tomorrow as it has nearly 300,000km on the clock and restoring it back to November 2008.

Should then run like new, be under warranty and run free from any annoying rattles.spacer.png

Computers these days are wonderful:score 010:.

There is a good reason the Australian car industry is closing down and it has nothing to do with the government being too broke to go on propping it up financially. Mitsubishi were the only ones that gave it a decent crack, loved my Verada!

No, the last virus I got was back in the 80's and it was called the stoned virus...your pc came up with "your pc is stoned" at the c prompt. That was back before windows and the internet

I got windows 3.1 running on a vm spacer.png

I don't think the floppy disks had any software on them after all this time anyway. Must be able to download it somewhere on the net anyway.

Happy Ford owners thought they ran out of steam at the VN, so there's a chance for improvement?

Be careful with your reply, the Ford owning Boss is no doubt watching spacer.pngspacer.png

He's such a wise man with his choices!

GROOOAN! How to make the endless thread? Start a Holden/Ford war in it.Nah, they're both crap cars. I wouldn't touch either of them.

More reliable and cheaper to repair than a bloody BMW!
