Phil Perry Posted June 29, 2016 Author Posted June 29, 2016 UK Stocks rising to almost pre-brexit levels. . . looking a little better at least.

Phil Perry Posted June 29, 2016 Author Posted June 29, 2016 you need to wait until you start seeing companies pulling out of England to relocate to the EU Most of them have already been purchased with EU grants, and have pulled out already mate. Hardly any left now. My Sister worked in admin at Ford van plant. which was relocated to Turkey some time back. . .
Bruce Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Congratulations Phil and all the other exiters. Democracy in action against big opposition huh.
Marty_d Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Ok, it all becomes clear now. Just hearing on the radio that Brexit will remove EU regulations governing importation of Australian wines. This will allow Australian wines to flood into the UK. So all the bluster and hype, talk about freedom from the oppressive EU, return to British Sovereignty... it's all a cover. The whole thing was organised so Phil could get more access to Aussie grog.

Bruce Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Bugger, its been a good buyers market for wine lately. What are the Poms going to send us in return? I know... royal visitations.
Marty_d Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Bugger, its been a good buyers market for wine lately. What are the Poms going to send us in return?I know... royal visitations. Well, at least they'll be amusing if HRH is as pissed as a newt.

My Sister worked in admin at Ford van plant. which was relocated to Turkey some time back. . . Turks work harder for less pay. It's like I keep telling you Phil, all the people with any brains left England years ago. With the devaluation of the pound, France has overtaken England as the 5th largest economy, India is the next country to over take you. France overtakes UK as fifth largest economy as pound plummets
Marty_d Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Apparently Australia is running short of pound notes as prospective holiday-makers buy up early... I'd get some myself for Christmas 2017, but most of our overseas expenditure will be on credit card or pre-paid so not much point. We're not the type to roll into Harrod's with pocketfuls of cash...

OK, OK you found me out, so I'll have to award you a grudging 'Winner' through clenched teeth ( what few I have remaining of course ) Yes. I admit it. My Beloved Barossa Valley ( and other notable liquid comestibles ) will cost fifty pence less Huzzah ! * Well they WOULD. . . bit since we will never actually leave anyway, it's all a bit academic innit ( rhetorical Q ) Phil
Spooks Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Bugger, its been a good buyers market for wine lately. What are the Poms going to send us in return?I know... royal visitations. You get enough of our women when your young males stretch out their wings and migrate to find a mate Reminds me of when my sister met her Aussie husband. They were in Newquay UK and he was in a bar. He was fed up of offers to be a lifeguard from locals assuming Aussie = surfer as he couldn't swim

I thought everyone shopping in London took a wodge of notes and threw them at the staff
pmccarthy Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 My daughter married a London dude and imported him to Oz. now I spend my spare time fettling an old Land Rober that he is in love with. Good bloke though.
spacesailor Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Only at "HARRODS" , If its still there. spacesailor
pmccarthy Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Oh YES !. . . . my Paternal Grandfather used to read loads of those . . 'War Picture Story' and 'Battle' etc. . . Jeeze, were those really 2/6d ? ? My Dad used to bring him a ruck of them each Friday night . . .seems a lot of dosh for 1955 / 6. . . maybe they weere even cheaper then. . .can't remember. I remember getting Ninepence pocket money though, 6d from Dad and 3d from Nan and Grandad. . . and 2 shillings a week for my paper round in the evenings ! Ey up Lad,. . . yer tell that T' Kids of today an' they wouldn't believe ya. . . Luxury ! A bit of googling shows the Air Ace was 1/- and later 1/6 but was probably dearer here in Oz back then.
Phil Perry Posted June 30, 2016 Author Posted June 30, 2016 I had an old Landrover when I lived in Melbourne, extremely short wheelbase Ute version. . . It nearly fettled me to death mate,. . . in the end, I ran out of fettlement parts and had to give up on it. Damn thing had only done half a million miles too, so it was a bit of a shame really. Replaced it with a Holden 186s Ute,. . . very reliable was that, apart from the 2 diffs I had to replace. . .
dutchroll Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Is it just my imagination, or do the Tories seem to have developed a taste for cannibalising each other at the moment over the whole Brexit thing?
Phil Perry Posted July 1, 2016 Author Posted July 1, 2016 Is it just my imagination, or do the Tories seem to have developed a taste for cannibalising each other at the moment over the whole Brexit thing? The Tories are masters of the art of self - immolation. We are watching the latest round with some mirth also Dutch. They have not quite 'Got' the process of 'Tidy' leadership selection down to a fine art just yet. Whilst Mrs. May, a person who has been demonstrably the worst, most ineffectual Home Secretary this country has had, . . . . is the favourite with MPs at the moment. They will choose two candidates out of the five proposed; then the grassroots tories will make the final selection. The best description of this process at the moment would be. . . 'Rats in a sack' As for the 'Brexit' subject, as I've indicated earlier, I doubt if this will actually happen. The rules are that articele 50 of the charter must be invoked by March 31st 2017 at the latest, otherwise the procedure is then subject to Qualified Majority Voting by the remaining 27 countries. This is why Mr. Cameron failed to invoke the article, has he had 'Cast Iron' promised to do, immediately upon losing the vote. I have no idea what sort of mess we will actuallly end up with, but it will be interesting to watch if nothing else.
Phil Perry Posted July 1, 2016 Author Posted July 1, 2016 BREXITEUPHORIA.... We were warned, . . . we were all told that it would end in tears. . . The EU said in one strong voice, we couldn't go back once we left . . . People are asking why we can't have a Brexit every week S&P +3.3% - best week since Oct 2014 Bullard Bounce "Most Shorted" stocks =10.1% in last 4 days - biggest squeeze since May 2009 Financials +3% - best week in 3 months 30Yr Treasury yield to record low - best week in 3 months Silver +11.25% - best week since Aug 2013 Gold up 5 weeks in a row Oil +3.2% - best week in six weeks . . . QUITE A WEEK ! I really don't understand what's going on here,. . .do the markets know something we don't ?
Marty_d Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 Well, gold being up usually means people are fleeing an uncertain market and putting their money in "safe" resources. "Most shorted" I would not have thought was a good thing, short selling means you sell future shares you don't yet own at a slightly lower rate than currently, because you expect the value of those shares to drop substantially before you have to buy them. In other words, you're betting that those shares will take a dive.

In other words, you're betting that those shares will take a dive. I didn't state anywhere that this was ALL good news Marty, Just that it was quite a week. It was more positive than not though evidently, and not the total crash which had been forecast by our OWN Chancellor of the exchequer ( amongst other doomsayers ) Anyway,. . .London has been visited by 50,000 marchers protesting about the fairness of the referendum ( BBC figures . . .independently estimated numbers are somewhat smaller. ) I was going to post this as a separate rant, but I might as well put it here. Protest march in London : Subject : ‘The EU Referendum was not a fair nor democratic contest’ The protesters are absolutely correct. The referendum wasn't fair nor held on a level playing field. The Tories backed ‘Remain’ as did Labour, the LibDems, the SNP, Plaid Cymru, the Greens, the SDLP, the UUP, Sinn Fein, Impartial National news broadcasters : The BBC, Sky, ITV and Channel Four. Richard Branson’s Virgin group, Michael O’Leary’s Ryanair, Shell, British Telecom,Vodaphone, Ford, BMW, BAE Systems, Rolls-Royce, the Banker's Association, RBS, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, the IMF, most Trade Unions, President Obama, 83% of scientists, 77% of lawyers, 72% of economists, all the Bishops, The Mayor of London, Tony Blair, John Major, Gordon Brown, Alastair Campbell, Bob Geldof, Gary Lineker, Jeremy Clarkson, Eddie Izzard and a multitude of other celebrities, actors and actresses, pop stars and newspaper columnists. And still, they lost ? We definitely need to re-run this referendum, as it is obvious that 1.4 million voters are complete bozos and obviously too old or stupid to be allowed a vote. It is interesting to note that the Electoral Commission have admitted that, had the referendum been conducted under the usual procedures for a General election, adjusted across all of the counting regions within the UK, the result would have been, in round figures, 65% Leave, 35% Remain. > >
Marty_d Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Nigel's bailing... seems a bit rude to run around whipping up the fervor then not stay around to deal with the consequences!! UKIP leader Nigel Farage stands down
