FLYING SCOTSMAN FLIES AGAIN !

Just in case there are any closet railway anoraks in Australia who are secret Trainspotters,. . . .

 

The Flying Scotsman, allegedly, the first steam locomotive to exceed 100 miles per hour ( in 1934 ) went on an outing today from Kings Cross station in London, to York, following a ten year refurb. There were railway enthusiasts dottted all along the route, positively wetting themselves with joy. ( No offence to them intended, cos I love it too ! )

Nothing like the hiss of steam and whiff of coal smoke to turn back the years.

 

What a beautiful thing to see as it crosses that viaduct.

My Grandfather took me & my brother to see it, It was so fast I was nearly sucked off my feet,& had to be held in a bear hug until it had passed.
