Yenn Posted November 14, 2016 Author Posted November 14, 2016 Bill Shorten called Trump "barking mad" or something similar. At the time I think most would have agreed with him. I certainly would, but now Trump is elected suddenly Bill is stupid. He has at least stuck to his guns and failed to retract the statement, which is more than Turnbull would have done. Bill was probably stupid to open his mouth pre election about Trump, but most of us agreed. There is no sense in any of our pollies and the whole system is rigged to get the least useful elected. That is why so many people, vote as they do. If we have a stupid PM who calls a snap election in an effort to get his own way, we will also have a lot of people voting against his party, even if his party has the better candidate. In my electorate we had a sitting member who is pretty useless and the opposition was equally repugnant, so that gives the greens and other parties a leg in.
willedoo Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 You pretty much can't even fart in Tassie without greenie approval I'd be interested to hear Marty's take on that. I used to think that was the case until I visited Tasmania recently. Having worked in forestry in Queensland for a while, I was quite surprised to see the lack of environmental rules in Tasmanian forestry practices compared with here in Queensland. I saw them still doing things that we stopped doing in the 90's, like clearing right down to the banks of major river systems, no buffer zones, also raking and burning harvest waste vegetation - no chopper rollers and mulching etc.. And here where I live, you are breaking the law if you trim a branch that is thicker than your wrist. It seems to me that there's a certain amount of myth surrounding the Green/Tasmania thing.
bexrbetter Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Bill Shorten called Trump "barking mad" or something similar. There was a protest in Melbourne by some 80 women against Trump's win. Some things are just stranger than fiction. Some of the quotes don't help their cause at all, my favorite is "I hate racists". Protesters gather in Melbourne to protest against election of Donald Trump Note the bulk of them were Uni students, one had the cheek to say Trump had never worked a day in is life, false but oh the laughable hypocrisy.
bexrbetter Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Because everybody was so busy posting memes about Trump's hairpiece, these are the sort of interviews people didn't get to see .... https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=1809876609227048
Marty_d Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 I'd be interested to hear Marty's take on that. To be honest I don't know an awful lot about the forest industry. I have a mate who was a second-generation sawmiller, I watched him and his father at work. They'd go in with the skidder, fell one tree and pull it out for milling. They didn't clear-fell entire areas and their environmental impact was pretty low. I'd say it's a very long bow to draw to say you can't do anything in Tas without "greenie approval", given that we have a Lib state government which pushes for more industry in any area, regardless of environmental impact. Tasmania, rightly or wrongly, has an image of unspoilt beauty. You can't buy that and when it's gone, it's gone. There's imaginative enterprises here which are world class, attract the tourist dollar and don't harm the environment - Tahune Airwalk, Bob Pennicott's boat tours of Bruny, MONA, the Midwinter Festival, the Overland Track, Three Capes walk, Sydney to Hobart, Port Arthur... not to mention spectacular beauty in Coles Bay, Cradle Mountain, the Tarkine, Bay of Fires... it goes on and on. We have world class cheese, wine, truffles, the Lark Distillery actually beat Scotland distilleries recently for a whiskey award. You don't need to dig it up or cut it down.
M61A1 Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 You don't need to dig it up or cut it down. Actually if you a re running cattle (cheese) or growing grapes (wine), someone has cut it down. I know bugger all about forestry, but I am very familiar with the quarry industry. All the roads we drive on were quarried from somewhere, as is all the aggregate for the concrete in houses, shopping centres, kerbing etc. I work with a guy who was in the quarry industry in Tassie, and that is behind my comments. I read in a quarrying publication some years ago, that we use around 18 tonnes of aggregate for every person in the country, and if you think that you use no quarry products, think again, if you use a road or go to the shops, or have kerbing outside you house or a slab under it. Tourism is great, but when money's tight no-one goes anywhere..

Bill is entitled to his opinion about Trump, but when he says things like "I would run the country like I ran the unions", well, that bothers me .....a lot.
dutchroll Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 Bill is entitled to his opinion about Trump, but when he says things like "I would run the country like I ran the unions", well, that bothers me .....a lot. Yeah harking back to my previous comment, that's dumb of Shorten. The country is not a "union", nor is the country a "business". Countries are many millions of people and thousands of different communities which have a mix of economic and social issues which neither fit into a "business model" nor a "workplace bargaining agreement". It's just so bloody stupid when politicians of either side say "I'm going to run the country like I ran my business" or "like I ran the unions" or "like I ran the Bonnie Doon Lawn Bowls Club". Countries don't work that way.
Yenn Posted November 15, 2016 Author Posted November 15, 2016 After watching that Trump video, I can't understand how he became a Republican nominee. He more or less said that GWBush was an idiot along with the est of his administration. He is agreeing with me and for that I think he is improving his image. He is so right about the USA not knowing who they are backing in Syria. They just wanted to get rid of their man in Syria Bashar Al Assad, as he wouldn't conform with their wishes
bexrbetter Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 They just wanted to get rid of their man in Syria Bashar Al Assad, as he wouldn't conform with their wishes As far as I'm concerned all these conflicts are about protecting Israel, but of course no one wants to talk about that, or rather, are not allowed to talk about it.
Gnarly Gnu Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 Israel is the only free democracy in the Middle East and on that basis deserves protection. Unless of course you are not a fan of democracies and prefer autocratic rule, then the others around it would appeal.
old man emu Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 But Israel is based on preserving the governance of a sector of the human population by a non-tangible entity whose existence cannot be proved by any currently observable means. OME
bexrbetter Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 Israel is the only free democracy in the Middle East and on that basis deserves protection. Bahaha, good one! Tell that to the 3rd of the population who aren't Jews. Or merely ask a Palestinian. "Deserves protection", we are talking about hundreds of thousands dying and uprooted, because it has a favorable to you political system? You can not be serious. Unless of course you are not a fan of democracies and prefer autocratic rule, then the others around it would appeal. Plenty of autocratic "democracies", Australia for example, and plenty of democratic autocracies. You would have to cite individual countries and determine which way they swing. You don't seem to understand that Israel wants autocratic rule over the entire region, ever read the Yinon plan, look familiar to actual events ... Yinon Plan - Wikipedia Interesting reading here too, ... The Destabilization of Syria – Who Gains? | Passion for Liberty
willedoo Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 He is so right about the USA not knowing who they are backing in Syria. They just wanted to get rid of their man in Syria Bashar Al Assad, as he wouldn't conform with their wishes The Americans have recently said they're concerned about losing influence with their proxies, but they seem to have already lost control of most of them. The original plan was so simple - topple Assad, then Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey get their pipeline through Syria that Assad refused. Like most U.S. plans of sheer brilliance, it was overly simplistic with no long term strategy and inherently flawed. We should really cease to be surprised when their adventures go belly up (as they do). Why we blindly follow them time after time on these comedies of error will always escape me. But not to despair, The Donald will do a deal in Syria with his new best friend, Vladimir Vladimirovich and all will be sorted out. Sounds almost as simple as the other plan.

Sounds almost as simple as the other plan. In order to do some of the National things he has politicized, he will have to take some of the defence budget, if that happens the world wins - might cost him his life though, lots of powerful happy people sharing that 600 Billion military budget every year, and they ain't going to be happy, especially Israel. http://ifamericansknew.org/stat/usaid.html
Yenn Posted November 16, 2016 Author Posted November 16, 2016 Israel. The state founded on terrorism. Without terrorism Israel would not exist. Just Google King David Hotel, or Stern Gang.
Gnarly Gnu Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Hahahaha it's becoming kook central. Anyways I just noticed the topic so...
bexrbetter Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Hahahaha it's becoming kook central. Oh that's rich coming from our number one sky fairy believer.
Gnarly Gnu Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Thank you Bex, I'm honoured you would say that. Indeed it is utterly transforming of one's life the day you discover God is real, everything is different from that day on. You know nothing of it yet it's the best thing that ever happened to me and whilst I banter with the God-haters here it saddens me that it is only pride stopping anyone from genuinely praying and finding a response they never expected. Don't forget I've come from where you currently are, complete unbelief. Folks life actually has a meaning and a purpose, there is logic behind everything you never realised. But this isn't politics so back on topic now I guess....
bexrbetter Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 whilst I banter with the God-haters here No "hate" because "hating" something that doesn't exist would be kookier than believing in something that doesn't exist.
Phil Perry Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 From Cousin Carole in Texas. . . . "Phil, you like Airplanes doncha buddy ?. . . .here's one from mah facebook friends " Good sense of humour our Carole. . .Brit expat from 1962, lifelong Democrat since then. . .married to a Mexican feller who is a high ranking official in a US bank. . .also Democrat. She obviously retains the Perry family 'Funnybone' for which we are infamous. . . She said. . ."I don't think that's a genooine picture though. . . ." (See ?. . .we are a perceptive family also. . . . )
bexrbetter Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 Just saw on the news President Abe of Japan is on a plane going to see Trump. Seriously, 1 week after he's elected but not even in office for a few months yet? Must be shiting themselves over some deal cut with Obama, either strongarm over China or the Pan Pacific Trade deal etc - and I don't think this will be the only one who comes a knocking.
willedoo Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 It's quite amusing seeing all these comedians sucking up to The Donald, especially after what they were saying about him a couple of weeks ago.

But this isn't politics so back on topic now I guess.... Well, my experience has been yours in reverse....I do not hate god, for he does not exist, I do however deplore those that go out and fill their children's minds with this garbage, so that they will keep on believing and raise their children to keep on believing. The day may come when YOU wake up and realise how much of your life you have thrown away, believing that there will be more afterwards, and begin to despise those that deceived you. There will be a rational explanation for praying and getting a result, but try telling that to someone who wont take the blinkers off.
