red750 Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 Some people are literalists, with the sense of humour of a doorknob.

old man emu Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 I remember back in the late 60s, when young people like hippies and surfers discovered sandals made from truck tyres in many places from Mexico to Asia and to Africa. They brought the idea back to Australia. Where I grew up, they became the "thing", especially since it was a strong surfie area. The sandals are known by many names which reflect the place where the person giving them a name first came across them. Since it was the time of the Vietnam War, they were known as Ho Chi Min sandals. In Mexico they are known as "huarache" because their shape is similar to a pizza-like food. They were also made by the Maasai people of Africa.
spacesailor Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 In NZ they were called " Japanes Sandles " , Jandles . spacesailor 2
