Phil Perry Posted March 15, 2017 Author Posted March 15, 2017 I wonder why Birmingham, Manchester, Heathrow nor Gatwick has such a nice, friendly welcome for travellers ?
old man emu Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 Clearly you haven't had to queue at Immigration at Heathrow recently. The queue organisers make that nice man and his puppy seem like a long lost cousin. OME

The queue organisers make that nice man and his puppy seem like a long lost cousin. OME Nah, you're going the wrong way about it Sir. . . . you need to fly into Belfast NI, very quick and efficient there. . . then you hop on a train to Dublinistan ( EU Zone) and take a ferry to Holyhead or Fishguard. . .no passport control, no customs. . dead easy. Bit circuitous, but the scenery from the Dublin train is quite pleasant . . .and Guinness is only around fifteen euros a pint there. . .
Marty_d Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 Guinness is only around fifteen euros a pint there. . . "Only"???
Phil Perry Posted March 17, 2017 Author Posted March 17, 2017 Email from Big Daughter this morning. . . . "Only"??? Hey Marty.. . . that's what we paid, three months ago,. . . on a flying trip to Dublin. . . .some bars were charging up to 17 EU a pint,. . .if you happened to be daft enough to walk into other fancy City centre bars. . . . they were asking up to Nineteen Euros per pint, for the famous Irish brew. . . and to be honest, . .the stuff is the REAL DEAL. . . BUT. . ..the place has gorn completely maad mate. . . the Irish are a typical example of the total feckwittery of what happens when a country embraces the European Union. . . . I spoke to Noone who admitted that they'd voted to stay IN the EU. . . odd that. . . . I wonder why. . . .
kgwilson Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 Our local Pub is having a special on Guinness for St Patricks Month!! at $8.00 a pint. That is EU5.70 at todays exchange rate. It may not be the genuine Irish stuff but the price difference is enough to make the taste buds adjust very quickly.

My wife drinks the black stuff, I don't, but it was nowhere near that much back then. I'd be surprised if it was 7 euro a pint. Mind you the Dublin stuff may be better... we were told that they produce 4 grades of Guinness... the best stays in Dublin, second best goes around the rest of Ireland, third best goes to the rest of the world... and the worst is sent to England... their words not mine!!
bexrbetter Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 and the worst is sent to England... their words not mine!! An Irishman in Dublin spots a Man drinking from a stream known to be heavily polluted from the local sewerage works. He says in a very heavy Irish accent "Don't be drinking that water Man, you get sick" - of course a heavy Irish accent is very hard to understand for anybody. The man replies; "I'm sorry Chap, I couldn't quite understand what you said, I'm from London you know, I'm travelling". The Irishman, mustering as clear as english as he can, says; "I asked you if you wanted a glass?".
spacesailor Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 Just reading about the Welshman That's now called Patrick!. Surprised that he was Not made a saint in later day's, could have been the Catholics first saint. spacesailor

Very close according to what I just read on the 'net, the late bars are close to 7, regular hours its 5.50 to 5.90. Down under in the trendy Perth city centre bars its probably around $12.
Phil Perry Posted March 17, 2017 Author Posted March 17, 2017 In the BIG Cities, I think they'll pitch the price at whatever they think that the tourists will pay. . . they certainly do in London. . . perhaps it's their way of filtering out any 'undesirables' . .! !

Phil Perry Posted March 17, 2017 Author Posted March 17, 2017 Happy St Patrick's Day folks. . . .
Bruce Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 Easter was actually the pre-christian festival of spring. The word Estrogen has the same roots. Similarly, Christmas is the feast of the winter solstice. Ever consider the names of the days of the week? They also pre-date the christian era. Our lot celebrate easter in such a non-religious way that nobody could be offended, unless of course they wanted us to join their particular cult.
