Spacey I've often been accused of being paranoid...but looks like you're off the scale.

Despite all of the above, In my experience the vast majority of people in our northern neighbour are good, decent citizens who would be more likely to help you than many Aussies. It's far more effective (and mobs cheaper) to engage with them than put up fences.

"Which teach intolerance and hatred of westerners. A handful of crazy extemists killed over a hundred Aussies in Bali. There are MILLIONS more radicalised youth coming thru those Saudi-funded schools "

AND You want to give them $,sqillions.

While our ex-soldiers are Homeless & starving. Old people without SupperAnn. are freezing & staving.

I expect That from inhumane Pollies !.

That's like saying that spending money on Australian schools is taking it out of the mouths of ex-soldiers and old people. It's just wrong.

We expect our government to be able to pay for all its responsibilities. As OK says, prevention is better than cure - supporting Indonesia's public school system is better than trying to prevent terror attacks later because we didn't.

By the way, if old people are freezing and starving, what's happening to the working age unemployed? Newstart is a lot less than the Pension and the government won't raise that. Plus they're not only expected to survive but also to look for work on that payment.

And spare a thought for those people who have turned 65 and can't find paid employment. A handful of years ago, they could apply for an age pension. Now it's a kick up the arse and live on $300pw on Newstart till you're 67. The Libs were planning age 70 till Scomo realized he'd better start getting popular for any chance to win the election.

The thing that really grates is that it was a Labor government who raised it to 67; the first change for the male pension age since the pension was introduced in 1909. Thanks a lot, Wayne and Kev.

I don't think they had much of a choice.

Life expectancy in 1909 for males was under 60. If you made it to 65, your life expectancy at 65 would be around 77, which means on average the blokes who made it to Age Pension age would only be on it for an average of 12 years.

In 2018 life expectancy for males is around 81. So the majority of blokes will make it to 65. If you get to 65, your life expectancy is 85 *. So you'll be on the Age Pension for an average of 20 years.

Unfortunately it's simple mathematics.

* all figures are averages. If your 85th birthday is tomorrow, don't worry, you're probably not going to drop off the perch.

LS - you are obviously not a pensioner relying solely on the pension. I've outlived my superannuation. Live on end of day markdowns, sit in armchair with a blanket around me - can't afford heating, sometimes don't go 4 km to the men's shed (which I get free), because I can't afford the petrol..

The pension age increase was long term planning, brought in at the May 2009 budget to be phased in from 2017 onward. I think that's why a lot of Labor voters think the Libs brought it in. One point is that Labor set it at 67, not 70 as per the preferred Liberal party number. If Wayne Swan didn't do the long term thing and had not brought it in, the Liberals would have made it 70 straight up when they took over. But they might still do that if they have trouble making a quid in the future.

Red I wish I was. I am the poor bugger on the dole as what was previously my disability is now magically cured according to some shuffling of deck chairs by the government.

Can I work more than 15 hours a week- no chance. Most weeks not even a half day.

So I get about $200 a week less than I should. If you think its tuff on the pension, try almost cutting it in half.

Yes the pension is a pittance but the new start is intentionally punitive and the libs love to hammer those without a job.

So sorry Red but I wish I was back on the pension, I could afford actual food.
