Popular Post nomadpete Posted February 13, 2022 Popular Post Posted February 13, 2022 I still can't get over how so many people can't be bothered making a stand for better hospitals or better education or better government decisions for the good of the majority (isn't that what democracy is all about?). But they take to the streets to object when the government makes a rule that protects the majority of the people (mask mandates). 2 3 1
nomadpete Posted February 25, 2022 Posted February 25, 2022 All the current news is too boring, it's time to relax, even if only for a moment.... 3
nomadpete Posted February 25, 2022 Posted February 25, 2022 And a couple of 'what did you do during lockdown' pics.... 3
old man emu Posted February 25, 2022 Posted February 25, 2022 I suppose that if you wanted to make one to lift truck batteries, you'd have to use 1/2" Gal. pipe. 1 1
onetrack Posted February 26, 2022 Posted February 26, 2022 Peter, it's called a Punt gun - a 2 gauge shotgun designed to kill around 50 ducks in one shot. They were never held at the shoulder like the bloke in the photo is doing, instead they were installed in small boats called Punts, like an artillery piece, and the firing of a Punt gun would drive the Punt backwards. The Punt gun was fixed in the Punt and the shooter had to manouevre the Punt into position to aim the gun. https://blade-city.com/blogs/gun-knife-blog/2-gauge-shotgun-the-punt-gun-is-the-world-s-largest-scattergun 2
red750 Posted February 26, 2022 Posted February 26, 2022 Yes OT. I knew what it was - came up on Facebook, and I read about it in Wikipedia. I didn't know how many others may have seen or heard of it. I thought it was interesting. 1
Jerry_Atrick Posted February 26, 2022 Posted February 26, 2022 N'er heard of it.. but then. except for a 303, Daisy BB, SLR, and M16, there aren't too many I know (don't even know the manufacturer/model of the air/nitro gun I bought at Chrissie).
old man emu Posted February 26, 2022 Posted February 26, 2022 That punt shotgun is soooooo 19th Century. What you want to be at the vanguard of modern weaponry is a Gauss Shotgun A coilgun, also known as a Gauss rifle, is a type of mass driver consisting of one or more coils used as electromagnets in the configuration of a linear motor that accelerate a ferromagnetic or conducting projectile to high velocity. The coils are switched on and off in a precisely timed sequence, causing the projectile to be accelerated quickly along the barrel via magnetic forces. In almost all coilgun configurations, the coils and the gun barrel are arranged on a common axis. A coilgun is not a rifle as the barrel is smoothbore (not rifled). Interestingly, while these devices are capable of propelling a "bullet" of sufficient mass and velocity to cause harm, at teh moment they are outside the legal definition of a firearm because the means of propelling the bullet is not the pressure from either expanding gas (regular sort of cartridge) or compressed air (air rifle). The Law can control them by classing them as Dangerous Weapons in the same way that crossbows are controlled. However, since this is cutting edge technology, the Law probaly doesn't even know they exist. Here's a video which explains the functioning of the weapon and then shows it in action on the range. On the range, I think the target is at 25 metres, but if you watch down range from the target you will se the the projectile goes through the target and lands further down range. 1
nomadpete Posted February 27, 2022 Posted February 27, 2022 Nobody liked my last effort. Try these. 2 1
onetrack Posted February 27, 2022 Posted February 27, 2022 The first meme is incorrectly attributed to Sun Tzu . It was actually said by his brother, Shi Tzu. 3
