Ok I give up.

I acknowledge the original custodians of the land on which this post was written.

The answer  is exactly.

What has four letters, W, H, A, and T.

Occasionally has twelve letters, O, C, C, A, etc.

Facetious. That's what they want. Before every council meeting, public performance, footy practice match. At the drop of a hat or opening of an envelope and so on. If it wasn't forced down our throat so often, we might have a bit more respect.

I don't disagree with that either but you are aligning yourself with a lot of  people who aren't particularly nice.. What's "Decolonising" for heavens sake and a few other things that are being brought up?.   The Voice is the least of our worries. Nev

Red is right, the Welcome to Country ceremony doesn't exist in original Aboriginal culture. It was a scheme concocted by Ernie Dingo and a mate to counter the kiwi Haka.

But now the Aboriginals have seized on it as the greatest money spinner since the dole, as they charge every group to hold a WtC ceremony, claiming each ceremony involves costs for them, and they need to be re-imbursed.

It's high time someone who's not constantly beholden to the "Aboriginal industry" to come straight out, and define it for what it actually is - a con job.

Is it being forced down our throats? There are many much more annoying things we seem to put up with without complaint.

That is not true; it was practised - just tnot to whiteys, and that is from Dingo's mouth: https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2016/feb/23/ernie-dingo-and-richard-walley-on-the-40th-year-of-their-welcome-to-country

Since he performed it, it has become mainstream, and only that particular tribe/mob/nation's version of it. Apparently there were different types of ways different Aboriginal nations welcomed those of other nations to their soil: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welcome_to_Country#cite_note-bolger-7

(Granted can't believe everything in Wikipedia and taking history from welcometocountry.org.au may be a little biased).

How can we avoid it?

I hate sports but a good proportion of the news is about sports.  I am an atheist however I see symbols of religiosity all over.  I am not particularly into symbolism or ceremony.   I am not into over-the-top patriotism.  I am not into celebrating Christmas however I often find myself having to say "Merry Christmas to you too"    Whilst I might prefer not t face these "problems"  I can accept that these things may be important to others and I am not petty enough to give a crap.   More importantly in order for me to live a happy life I don't dwell on these trivialities. In my list of life problems the items I have listed are way down the bottom.  Anger should be saved for genuine outrages, even then working towards changing or avoiding these things is a lot better for your mental health than shouting at clouds.

Imagine if you hated football as I do. You really CAN'T get away from THAT., Your problem RED is miniscule by comparison. Atheists LIVES are threatened in many parts of the world, Same if you are GAY..Stay COOL and live longer. IF that means anything. I've met Earnie Dingo. He's a nice and funny man. I didn't feel threatened at all.  Nev

Not really funny given how close to reality it is for a lot of US workers:

Having said that, the US company I worked for, and IBM< have gone well above and beyond their obligations for a couple of fellas I knew (both, sadly, have since passed away).
