I deliberately ignored the current prices these old bikes bring, Nev. Because all that happened way back when I was young, inexperienced, and foolishly adventurous. Had I bought the Harley, In all probability I would be dead and the value of the bike somewhat diminished by the accident damage.

I think that I am justified in being severely offended by that post.

Yet you post that pic in a thread for "silly" pictures:wink:

There's a lot of crap written about Harleys. You can enjoy them at reasonable speeds and I doubt they have a high rate of accidents generally. I personally don't like the big cruisers of any make but that's just me. If you buy a 150+ HP superbike copy you ride it accordingly to a great extent or you wouldn't buy a bike with high power. The faster you are going, the more traumatic the accident. Ride on tracks what's designed for tracks, and ride carefully on the roads. Where you really are exposed to big risks from other road users, and road conditions.. Nev

I was offended by the - post - not necessarily the message.

And your Yamaha is worth about $500 and the WLA would fetch above $20,000. Nev

Fair go, Nev. The Yamaha's not that worthless. Here's one for $5.5K

That's about 1/5th the insured value of mine. And mine doesn't sound like lawn mower.

Not all Yamaha's are equal. That price seems optimistic for an aircooled RD . A TD would be something better. On many of those bikes the paint is thin, the chrome is ordinary and the wiring plastic all cracks, and the plastic bits get brittle and the neoprene parts shrink and go hard.. Lots of diemetal on them as well. The older stuff doesn't have those problems. Nev

If anyone knows how to replace the cracked gray plastic sheath on Yamaha wiring I would like to know for a current project. Connectors on the end of each wire so you can't slide something on.

What you would be after is a liquid tape electrical insulation system? Clicky clicky.

That was my first legal road bike- ran to school on it. Lots of fun, bugger all speed but fine in traffic. The brake was a disaster in the wet- stainless steel.

Aircraft Grade Heatshrink tubing ?. . . used it years ago to 'Oil Proof' the wiring harness whch is routed from the cockpit up the under - engine struts on an X'Air Mk 1. . . was big enough prior to shrinking to pull over the connectors. . .
