There are plenty of highly qualified people in Mexico and they can produce world-class stuff. There are two ways to react to competition from other countries: improve your own quality (e.g. Japan, Northern Europe) or unleash the xenophobia that's just under the surface...

They certainly make really GOOD 'Fender' guitars,. . . I have one of their products,. .a 2006 Anniversary Stratocaster. . . I've seen the USA equivalent, at four times the price,. . .and I HONESTLY can't, as a guitar player for fifty odd years,. . .see any appreciable difference in the 'Build Quality' of the Mexican product. . . . A Genuine 'Gibson' Les Paul guitar, made in Kalamazoo, Mich. will cost around £1500 for a base model in the UK. . . .the Chinese have copied this design studiously, and I can buy a Chinky model for around £300. . . my mate has one, and I can't telll the difference. . . the electronics are perfect, the intonation is great, the build quality is superb. . .BUT these copies are Illegal, as they are 'Grey' imports. . . . M61A1 Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 I reckon that has to be out at the Jondaryan Woolshed. They've been doing that display for years.
M61A1 Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 If anyone knows how to replace the cracked gray plastic sheath on Yamaha wiring I would like to know for a current project. Connectors on the end of each wire so you can't slide something on. If you get or make the correct tool, you can remove the pins from the plug, then re-pin after you put your sleeve on.
bexrbetter Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 and I can buy a Chinky model for around £300. . . Really? Only cost me about $50 a night.
Litespeed Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 If you get or make the correct tool, you can remove the pins from the plug, then re-pin after you put your sleeve on. Yes, I recently did the loom on a Yamaha TDM 850, i used a very small flat head and removed all the wires from the connectors, bundled them and threaded through new tubing. Then I reattached the connectors. It can be done, and clean all the wire plugs at the same time, any crap wire- I replaced. It was a 25 year old loom and electrics, it became like new and the cloth cover shrink looked great. Cleaned up all the switch gear, starter etc and added LED driving light bar at same time. Damn night became day with 40w of LED.
