Phil Perry Posted June 2, 2017 Author Posted June 2, 2017 My Old Man had this saying. "A locked door will only keep an honest thief out." Geoff, one of my Grandads used to say that, . . .and that old adage, that 'In the Old Days, you could leave your doors unlocked and you wouldn't have to worry'. . .is just bullcrap. He reckoned that there were more bloody crims about, mainly because they were starving, as 'Bennies' hadn't been invented yet. . . He said he had loaves of bread and bottles of milk nicked on a regular basis whilst he wasn't looking. . .never any violence with it though, just 'Sneak' stuff. . .
Phil Perry Posted June 2, 2017 Author Posted June 2, 2017 THANK YOU. . .Site software for my Flagged Up 'Happy Birthday' greeting. . .although I would rather not normally announce to the world that I am now 67 years young. . . . I just HAD to thank someone. . . .Small Daughter sent me a card saying 'Happy Father's Day Dad' with the 'Father's day' bit crossed out and 'Birthday' written under it. . . .followed by the text: 'Sorry Dad,. .. I bought this card when I was a bit tired. . . . ' Ahhhh Bless. . . . Not to worry, she also bought me a bottle of 'Absolut' Vodka. . .( Slurp ) and a bottle of Genuine French Champagne,. . .Charles Heidseck stuff. . . this is going down very nicely at the moment. We, ( the family ) are going to a local Curry house for my Birthday meal tomorrow evening ( Sunday ) as it is within walking distance from all of us. . .In this regard, we can all get ratarsed and not worry about the 'Plod', mind you, as My Big Daughter said, ( she is an Ex-Police officer ) the 'Plod' are too busy investigating Hate Crimes' at the moment, so there are very few police patrol cars about and 'WALKING' patrols . . .have not been seen for decades around here. . . . Looking forward to a good family bloat then, there's only 23 of us, so we shouldn't create too much of a disturbance in the force at the restaurant. . .

Does anybody remember "Let Stork Strine", or are you all too young to have heard of it? Went to see a strine lawyer to discuss Libel. . . . He said "What kinda wine mate ?" I'll get me coat. . .
old man emu Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 Good idea, Phil. That wasn't one of your grape ones.
David2ayo Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 1. For some reason I just can't imagine, my photo wasn't up with the other 1950's drop. 2. I've finally found someone to verify why Bex r Better. 3. I used to be able to say (after being totally politically incorrect to some sweet young girl) "I'm not a lecherous old man, I'm only xx", where 'xx' was my age. Unfortunately, when xx exceeds 60, it starts to fall a little flat ..... David

Phil Perry Posted June 11, 2017 Author Posted June 11, 2017 This is a concept pic of the proposed NASA Mars Rover. . . . Tthe only final things to decide are, whether it's powered by Gasoline or Diesel, and which side of the road it's configured for. . . .

What I would ask is why you'd bother with any sort of streamlining at all, when it's designed for an atmosphere which is about 0.6% of the mean sea level pressure of Earth. I'd have thought that something that looks like a house brick on wheels would be the simplest, easiest and give the most internal space.

It's the fifties / sixties 'Flash Gordon / Buck Rogers' syndrome Marty. Back then every schoolkid and most adults probably; thought that super sexy, beautifully streamlined jet aircraft like space machines were the way to go. . . . .This is why I thought that the 'Borg Cube' vessel in Star trek NG was a masterstroke of engineering foresight by Gene Roddenberry's crew. One of the science teachers at my high school tried in vain to point this 'Streamlining' thing out in the early sixties, but at the time, it didn't click. We all wanted our space 'Dogfights' coz it looked more exciting. . . with winged 'Fighters' curving through space, A La Battlestar Galactica ! !

Someone from work sent around her holiday snaps today and this thing was among them. There you go - vehicle already designed! (Ok, so the powerplant may need some work given it can't breath oxygen. Maybe a trailer with a pocket-sized nuclear reactor in it a la Arthur C Clarke.) Disclaimer: do not take an Earth bus to a planet with no breathable atmosphere without doing some basic gap-sealing and an airlock system...
nomadpete Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Been in one of those, on a glacier. They all had femme drivers! There goes the neighborhood!!!!
