Quite apart from the dogs, what sort of imbecile leaves 6-8yo kids unsupervised?

In Queensland, it's against the law for any child under twelve to be unaccompanied by a parent or adult guardian, including in the private home. I think it's only really enforced in the case of leaving children in a car unattended. But as the law stands, an eleven year old can't be left at home, ride their bike to school, walk down the street on their own etc..

Due to an SJW 'Snowflake' campaign, a council in the county of Suffolk, UK, saying that the ubiquitous 'Cat's Eyes' reflective road markings are cruel to cats, because this name could cause cruelty to animals. . .( I'm being serious here ) They are to be renamed 'Road Studs'.

You really couldn't make this bloody stuff up. . . .why the hell the authorities take any notice of these minority snowflake Whingers is beyond me. . .

These things have been used on UK roads for as long as I can remember, and I'm fairly ancient now. . .( 67 ) . . .The British invented Cat's eyes have been in use for decades, and hey have even got a feature where the top is spring loaded, so that when a vehicle runs over them, they depress into the ground, and at the same time, a little wiper 'Wipes' mud and road dirt off the reflective 'Eyes' thereby washing them. . .

The inventor of cat's eyes was Percy Shaw of Boothtown, Halifax, West Yorkshire, back in 1933, and they have been used all over the world. . .Saudi Arabia have bought Millions of them for their super highways. . in various colours to denote the centre and sides of their empty roads. . . ie, White for the centreline, Red for the edges and Green for slip roads, I've been told this, I have not ever driven in Saudi. . .not outside of an airport anyhow. . .

I understand that they are also used at various international airports in the UK, for when thee is an electrical failure of the ground lighting on taxiways ( Blue and Amber ) and could, of course be employed elsewhere, they certainly are in Barbados, I saw them in use at Bridgetown airport when we landed there during a regular power cut and the flight crew used them to taxy to the stand, using their landing lights to illuminate the cats eyes. . . ( I cheated and asked the crew as we disembarked, as this couldn't be seen from the passenger cabin of an Airbus. . .and being interested in aviation as I am,. . .I wanted to know how they navigated the airfield in pitch black darkness. . . ! The main runway lights were OK, I saw them, maybe the Emergency Honda 2 stroke Genny wouldn't run all the other lights at the same time !)

I gather that our American friends developed a similar system some years ago, the guy that 'Invented ( read COPIED) them was named 'Bott' . .. so the Septics call them 'Bott's Dots' in the states. . .maybe Suffolk should have adopted this name instead of digging them all up and just using white paint. . . . feckin' idiots. . .that's what we sensible people are up against nowadays innit ?

Yer dunnarf learn some interesting stuff on this site doncha ? ? ?

Since this is a silly picture thread, I tried to post a picture, but it won't post. . .too big apparently. .. sorry. Can't be arsed to reduce it tonite,. .. it's a quarter past the witching hour and I'm bound for bed. . .

I heard,

The inventor of the "cateyes" was asked to reduce his royalty on them, to which the reply was

"it's the smallest denomination coin in the British Isles, so I couldn't take any less than a half-penny each"

So did he get a rise, as there is No, half-new-pence.

A serious charge I am sure. . . .but. . .

The question I am forced to ask is this. . . . what the hell was he going to do with the RACOON ffs ? ? ? ?

I don't think the racoon is the strangest thing in that post. If your surname is "Terry", what sort of sick parent names their son "Barry Larry"??

His mother called him that after his three possibly fathers. Don't blame her, it was a big night.

I think the racoon is still sitting on his head.

I have to agree Marty. Whilst I was at grammar school, ( Secondary ) in the second year I encountered a lad whose family name was 'Head'. Now what awful parent had the brilliant idea to name him Richard I wonder ?. . .surely this must rate as some sort of 'Mild' child abuse ? . . .I remember the term 'Oi - you Dikhead' being quite popular in the early sixties. . . . I dunno,. . perjaps he came from a deeply religious family. . . .who knows. . .

One of my Daughters went to primary school locally and in her year there was a lad named Anthony Terence Sperry,. . . . 'Terry Sperry ?. .

. . I hope that these two chaps didn't grow up with a rather negative outlook on life. . . I wonder if the second one came from a long line of artificial horizon inventors. . . .( Rhet )

The Muslims don't realize how easy they've got it do they ?. . .a Mum yells out of the front door to fifty lads playing football in the street,. . 'Oi Mohammed. . .yer dinner's ready. . . and a great shout goes up. . .. 'OK . . . .coming . . . '
