Don't you have something to do with signwriting, Herr Perry...?

Ja Monseiur. . . Well, I used to supply road signs, but since 'Semi-retirement in 2015, I only bother with airfield signs ( when I can sidestep the BIG suppliers ) and the odd vehicle nowadays. Oddly enough, I'm having a few probs at the mo, as my software / hardware combo is ancient, but was most effective. It ran on Windows XP, and the main plotter / vinyl material cutter is rs232 Serial feed. My last WinXP machine died just prior to Christmas, and unless I can find a suitable replacement, the only option is to spend around £4,000 on a wide format USB plotter Plus some New software ( around a Grand ) which will run on a much later version of windows. . . Even If I could justify this, it would also mean the loss of thousands of files containing repeat work. Mind you,. . .I've still got around 40,000 fonts YAY!

Don't jump in yet, Microsoft had talked about a "new" operating system, based on the "Android" system.

Android: Jellybean 2012: Kitkat 2013: Lollipop 2014: Marshmellow 2015: Nougat 2016.

MS is still working on what they need to keep user's loyal to them.

And check online for conversion adapter's RS to USB

He might have to buy a few to get one that works for his particular device.

The great thing about serial comms is that there are so many standards to choose from. When the RS232 port ceased to be fitted to new laptops, I used to carry a couple of USB/RS232 converters - one size didn't fit all of our antiquated stuff.

Or do what sane people do and put your work onto a portable drive!. spacesailor

Not the prob Spacey. . . I've lost no data, everything is duplicated and backed up. Always has been. Just got to sort the production sys.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. . . taking delivery of six machines on Friday, incl 2 laptops.

Will see what I can do with those.
