to point out bad spelling

Actually, one can only point out incorrect spelling. Correct spelling is the representation of sounds using letters of the alphabet as indicated by the consensus of the social group the written word  is directed towards. Therefore "kwik" in the business name "Kwik Print" is a correct spelling of the sounds speaker of the English language interpret to mean rapidity.

A person whose attempts at reproducing sounds by using the alphabet are often at odds with the consensus can be described as a "bad speller", and the examples of departure are the facts that prove the assertion. Conversely, a person who efforts at this task consistently reflect the consensus can be called a "good speller".

Yeah some run that argument but you lose the word structure and meaning. I don't see it as desirable to forfeit that benefit. Phonetics is OK for  getting the pronunciation "'near"  acceptable, especially with a language like French, where you think you've got it and they are rolling around with Laughter. I don't go for the Led Zed Lern. thing. and never did. That's when I left teaching.  Nev
