GRIPES

In Cairo, there's always a bloke who shoves his hand in front of you, looking for payment, every time to go to the toilet. I think the idea is to pay him to keep the place clean, but I couldn't say he was doing a good job, so I gave him bugger all. Us Aussies are apparently noted overseas for being toilet tightwads.

I have paid in toilets in other places in Europe, where it looked like the toilet-keeper was doing their job properly.

Remember the old rhyme -

Here I sit, broken hearted,

Paid my penny and only farted.

I remember an underground toilet on Elizabeth St Melbourne years ago, outside the G.P.O. Nothing for a leak, but coin in the slot to take a seat.

Same in Sydney Central station loo.

A penny to use a cubicle. An an authoritan lady standing guard over the place.

My wife and I went to Harrods in London and both visited the lavatories. She came out and told me how nice it was, fresh and clean with a variety of scented soaps and assorted stink water, as well as a uniformed attendant to assist visitors and to keep the place tidy. Then I told her about the Gent's toilet. Quite similar to an MCG loo after the Grand Final.

And now for some graffiti commenting on other entries on the back of a toilet door:

One would think,

with all this wit,

Shakespeare's ghost

came here to shit.

Money truck guards always carry guns, and are always quite nervous if you get too close to them.

The most valuable things to score from knocking over a money truck are the guards' guns. The banknotes are too easy to trace if you put them back into circulation. Many a bank robber has come undone by splashing the cash. A hand gun is easily concealed and readily tradable.

In Alice Springs, it was 50 cents to use the Yeperenye public toilets. Well worth it I thought. ( yes, the place is owned by blackfellows but run by whites.) The public toilets down the street were dreadful places. Shit smeared much higher than a kid could reach etc.

I reckon you can rate a place by the standard of public dunnies. In the SE of SA there is the only public dunny I have ever seen where there are paper towels!

Good point, Bruce. There are lots of international ranking schemes, for Universities, Quality of Life, etc. Perhaps ranking public dunnies is a more accurate indication of the quality of people. (What form of human life smears crap on the wall? Some of Trump’s insurrectionists are reported to have done this to walls in Congress; Are they proud?)

Pretty sure most of them are picking up from till drops, not distributing

depends on the circulation....
I would have thought drug deals are still a cash business.

remember a former dealer on a radio segment talking about buying a hot-dog van.
so he could launder the cash through the bank and make it all look legitimate on paper.

was buying hot dog supplies etc... and would just give them away to keep it all looking legit

Over the years when people have quoted me a surprisingly low price, I’ve often jokingly asked if they were a front for an illicit operation; maybe they were!

Another forum I am on had a thread dedicated to Godfreys being a front...
when was the last time you saw someone in there buying a vacuum?

I don't normally post in gripes because my life is pretty good and I am not impressed by whingers.   This morning was not the best. My first task of the day is to make coffee for myself and my lovely wife.  We are in the midst of installing a new rangehood in our kitchen so things are a bit unorganized.  This morning the coffee bean canister slipped from my grasp.  I did not drop the container but (lid off) did do that thing where you juggle an object before retaining control of it.

This resulted in a majestic arc of coffee beans across my kitchen floor.

If this is a gripe then it is a gripe of a privileged white bloke and does not deserve any sympathy at all as none is expected.

That's terrible octave, you do have my sympathy. Coffee beans on the floor. We need an 'opposite of gripes' thread.
