Been watching a few of Chris and Scott Hendry's flying around series,. . . but since I have not flown over the same areas since the mid to late 1970s, I can't remember what it looked like back then for a comparison. . . I watched a few last evening, and both Chris and Scott remarked several times how green it looked, even the Simpson Desert ! ! ! I think those  particular vids were from late 2016 . . .

Space, I dunno if you saw my mars-like picture taken near Narromine at Ausfly. It was about 2 weeks ago. Those poor farmers...

Last time I went to a fly-in at Narromine, it rained 50mm that night!  Alas history did not repeat itself.

Here's a gripe about something I think we have covered before, but it has raised its ugly head again. Dealing with call centres.

My wife has a very small parcel of shares she bought or was given as a Christmas bonus by her employers. So small a bundle that it is a nuisance to the brokers - they're not getting any commission because she doesn't want/need financial advice. The shares were in three lots, one paid a dividend, one was reinvested, and one was the shares from the reinvestment. They have been passed from broker to broker without our knowledge, and the bundles have been combined so we don't know if she will get a dividend, or all reinvested or what. To make things worse, the brokers cannot locate the shares, because someone, without her authority, has a) changed her address, and b) changed her title from Mrs to Ms. We got a letter saying they were forwarding confirmation of the address change to our "old" address in case of fraud.  Wha???  We have lived here over 40 years, and she has been Mrs. for 49 years. Now they tell us they have given her a new Holder Identification Number and cancelled her old one, so trying to trace anything is going to be a nightmare. The letter by the way, was addressed to her using her full first and second names, no Mrs. or Ms. The address was spelled out in full on the letter - Avenue, but they can't find a match because their records use the post office preferred Ave. Common sense went out the window years ago.

When you contact a call centre to try and work things out, they can't identify you because THEY have changed your details, you can't speak to the same person twice, you have to rehash the whole saga each time you call. You loose your cool and raise you voice and they remind you that the call is being recorded, as if that's some sort of threat. Obviously no one listens to the recorded calls, because no one attempts to sort things out. And you can't ask to speak to a supervisor - apparently they don't have them.

Needless to say, my wife is almost out of her wits over it all. God only knows how we are meant to explain it all to the ATO.

Call the police, as it all looks suspect.

I had an incident with W pak bank. Almost  12 months to chase my money,  & no help from that bank, until I said I,m going  to the police.

That put the "cat amongst the pigeons ".

They rang two or three daysk later .

It involves one of the oldest and most "respected" broking firms, and one of the major banks securities divisions, Which Bank? Can't say, but they can.

I agree with Space. Promise to report the whole thing to the police,  the media, the tax dept, and your local MP's.  But don't hope for too much from any of them.  Mind you, those brokers will have to assume that somebody in authority might present them with a please explain.

Shouldn't have to explain it to the ATO - they already know about your shares.

About 20 years ago a whorehouse in Melbourne got floated on the ASX ("Planet Platinum").  Well, for a laugh a couple of mates and I threw in $20 each and bought a few shares.

So the first year they'd brought in this automated system (must have been 5 or 6 years ago?) my wife and I are sitting with the accountant doing our tax with the form showing on a big screen.  He goes to the section on shares and says "Ah, so you own some shares in Planet Platinum..."

I was quite surprised, had totally forgotten about it.  Then had to explain to my wife, who hadn't been my wife at the time we bought them, why I had shares in a knocking shop!

Marty,

Sounds like a great investment. Shares in the oldest profession! Couldn't lose!

What I want to know is,

Was the dividend good?

Do you collect your dividend in person????

Let's see - even if my initial investment doubled over the years, that's still only $20 worth.

Unless they started charging by the second, I doubt they could have delivered the dividend in services....
