Star trek style would have been great, maybe even a Fazer set to stun. Now my biggest threat is swimming with sharks, pure bliss and safe....relatively. 2
Popular Post octave Posted January 17 Popular Post Posted January 17 I have no gripes because I am a white middle-class male. Unless you have extreme financial pressures or extreme health conditions (my health is not great) then for f*** ske just enjoy your life and stop whinging, (my wife is interstate so there are no constraints on my drinking) To me people who whinge are losers except in some extreme cases. You are alive you have a family, STOP F***ING WHINGING. 1 1 1 1 1

Litespeed Posted January 17 Posted January 17 (edited) Exactly I am surrounded by a world renowned RAMSA bird sanctuary and national Park in one of the world's best harbours. I might not be flying but nature shows me everyday. Too see a Sea Eagle fish then roost on the island is priceless. And some of the world's best seafood is only a bit of effort away. Bruce Tuncks Posted January 17 Posted January 17 good onyer guys. I am getting old ( 78) but my health is ok and I have a j230 at the local airfield. So no personal gripes, but I still worry about trump and putin and global warming and a list of other things which will effect my offspring. Yep I am a worrier. 2 2

onetrack Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Boats = A hole in the water into which you regularly throw $100 notes, just for the sheer pleasure of getting wet and cold a large part of the time. Or as a former business partner, who was a boat builder and one-time large yacht owner, neatly outlined - "Owning a yacht is like standing in a cold shower, tearing up $100 notes". 2 1
spacesailor Posted January 19 Posted January 19 (edited) I once ' chartered ' my yacht out for NY-Eve . They insisted on twice as much as I thought reasonable. All the food & drink for free . But , as I was incharge , none was consumed . More dollars from yacht owning, than I could ever Imagined. I wonder IF the same holds true , for ' air raft chartering ' . spacesailor Edited January 19 by spacesailor A I changed two words 1
Litespeed Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Boats are great ways to live but better at spending money. They cost much more when no used or left long periods, just like aircraft. Those who spend the most tend to know the least and have more money than sense. They can actually be money spinners eg yacht doing day trips for tourists. Some are booked 3trips a day 7 days a week. I know one that's done 100 days straight bookings. 1 1

nomadpete Posted January 20 Posted January 20 My gripe of the day.... I've been sitting here for an hour watching this thread, waiting for the report of Octave's disasterous cycling accident. And nobody has posted anything about it. 2

facthunter Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Not everybody. Demolition Derbys are a waste of time unless you're a cretin. You go to watch good driving and riding. Nev
old man emu Posted January 20 Posted January 20 There's a young lad from Central West NSW who is making a name for himself in the USA dirt track racing world, what we call 'speedway'. But look at what they are riding: Where are these bikes? and these 'swingers' The Good Old Days: Saturday night at the Sydney Royale, Moore Park and Sunday afternoon at Westmead.
facthunter Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Cinder track and sliding developed in the 20s in Newcastle and Maitland and spread from that. Early bikes used Rudge, Douglas, AJS American Crocker, the Harley 350 Pea shooter and later the soon to become ubiquitous JAP engine from Tottenham London and designed by Val Page and installed in various frames till the Mid 60's when ESSO Jawa displaced them. Speedway bikes have NO brakes or gearboxes.. Versions of grass track and oval track have One and two and a four speed gearbox of which you only use the top 2. None of them have a kick starter and they all pretty well ran on Methanol with a total loss oil system and CASTOR oil that exited the engine case by a Leather flap valve on the bottom of the engine. old man emu Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Nothin' like the smell of a burnt methanol and castor oil mixture on a balmy Sydney summer's evening. 1 1
facthunter Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Once you've run an alcohol speedway bike It will exude a beautiful perfume in your workshop for a good 6 months. Best to run about 4 tankful's to get it properly hot so as to have no water in it. Nev 1
