red750 Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 On the Aurora Channel on Foxtel they have a wayback machine called Jukebox Saturday Night. They dug up an old clip the other day by the Dellltones with the baratone voice of Ian "Peewee" Wilson: A web search reveals that they were still performing regularly as recently as 2015, performing what Peewee referred to as "fossil rock". 2
Jerry_Atrick Posted April 5, 2020 Author Posted April 5, 2020 Someone asked about The Seekers.. Well, the song sung by the band has aready been put up, bit not as good as this one... Enjoy! 1
Jerry_Atrick Posted April 5, 2020 Author Posted April 5, 2020 I thought I had posted this already but a search didn't yield anything, so positing it.. A little contemporary, but a great song.. Enjoy... 1
Jerry_Atrick Posted April 5, 2020 Author Posted April 5, 2020 OK,I admit it.. I have a bottle of Barossa Valley Estate Cab Sav with me... partner is one some HInter valley stuff (is it Rosemount???)4 Here is a another great unsung Aussie Band.. Better than "The Beautiful South", IMHO..
Jerry_Atrick Posted April 19, 2020 Author Posted April 19, 2020 TMG - Brings back some memories.. I think the back of her shorts had JerryAtrick's embroided on it at some stage 1
old man emu Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 The Atlantics are an Australian surf rock band founded in 1961. They were the first Australian rock band to write their own hits. The Atlantics had the advantage of having twin lead guitarists, both highly proficient on solo work and both capable of pushing the band along with a driving rhythm. It was this, together with the band members' European cultural influences (largely Greek with some Yugoslav and Hungarian - all members came to Australia as child migrants) that gave their music that passionate edge over other local bands of their day. 1
old man emu Posted April 22, 2020 Posted April 22, 2020 (edited) Here's the leader of a 1930's Swing group, Jock Strapp and his Elastic Band. Edited April 22, 2020 by Guest 2
Jerry_Atrick Posted April 26, 2020 Author Posted April 26, 2020 This should be appreciated by all you homebuilders: 2
onetrack Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 (edited) Nothing says 1960's Australian rock music to me like the Bee Gees. Here's Spicks and Specks - and amazingly, it could be an ad for Cessna! Edited April 27, 2020 by Guest 1
red750 Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 Here's another iconic group that has been overlooked, and their name has an aviation link - tenuous that it may be. And there is another aviation connection as well. 3
old man emu Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Wasn't it great in the 70's when it WAS the 6:30 news and not an hour of opinions? 1 1
Jerry_Atrick Posted July 31, 2020 Author Posted July 31, 2020 (edited) On 23/09/2017 at 5:48 AM, Yenn said: Nobody seems to like my favourite Aussies. The seekers. I reckon Judith Durham has the nicest womans voice I have ever heard. Well, Yenn.. You can relax.. My son, at 17 years of age has just discovered them. He is becoming politically aware (although taking a Willedoo stance to Russia... ) and was researching various things and for some reason has become interested in countries' national anthems.. Anyway, he showed me a few countries national anthems (inc. NZ) and remarked on what most of us thing about Advance Australia Fair.. Then he played me the Seekers "We are Australian".. His remarks were a) he could not understand why that wasn;t the Aussie anthem and b) what a wonderful voice JD has... Edited July 31, 2020 by Jerry_Atrick
nomadpete Posted August 1, 2020 Posted August 1, 2020 You've done well. You have inspired your son to use his enquiring mind. He'll go far.... 1
Jerry_Atrick Posted August 9, 2020 Author Posted August 9, 2020 (edited) Thanks... but it wasn't me. Pre-COVID, I was hardly home.. SWMBO should take the credit... Edited August 9, 2020 by Jerry_Atrick
red750 Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 Here's a couple more oldies resurrected by Jukebox Saturday Night. 1
red750 Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 I've been through this thread from beginning to end. I was looking for LRB and found a couple, but these two bands seem to have been missed First, Glenn Shorrock's earlier band, The Twilights - Needle in a Haystack And Brian Cadd and Axiom - Little Ray of Sunshine 2
red750 Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 And here's another LRB classic Lonesome Loser 1
red750 Posted November 8, 2020 Posted November 8, 2020 I was watching Jukebox Saturday Night again and they played Spectum's I'll Be Gone, but I note it is already included in this thread. However, here's another one they played, a group that started out in NZ but spent so much time in Aust we consider them one of us - Mi-sex Compu-pu-pu-puter Games https://youtu.be/gsHYSs_qgmU
Jerry_Atrick Posted November 8, 2020 Author Posted November 8, 2020 I hadn't realised they started in NZ.. Sort of a prohpetic song,, that one...
red750 Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 Damn this thread and its videos. I've got Spectrum's 'I'll Be Gone' stuck in my head and I can't shake it. @#$%^! 1
