facthunter Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 The ones I've seen not rotating are generally shut down as there is no requirement for their power at that time. You will see some going and others not. This must aid in balancing the output to the load, I would think. Coal plants are not as efficient (and may also fail) on a very hot day. Coal isn't the answer to the problem. we haven't built new ones for years. The super critical ones take a long time to fire up and only work efficiently at a set output, near their Maximum. As they are a high capital cost, they won't be performing a standby function either. Nev
