storchy neil Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 So the postal servey is the go looks to me their money failed to kill it no vote will have em crying in nappies better buy shares in the tissue company or the beach towel company Neil
Bruce Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 Is your bet on a no vote storchy? I reckon it will be yes and I'll bet you a glass of red just to put some interest in the outcome.
storchy neil Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 Your on when the no up I will drive over to collect neil
storchy neil Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 Oh sheeeet I don't drink it I spoooose I could make an exception neil
Bruce Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 Good onyer neil. I look forward to having a red with you . I can provide a non-alcoholic red easily enough and I admire non-drinkers. I don't care that much who wins. Actually, I like the precedent of the postal vote. It makes it more obvious at all the things we are NOT given a say over, like immigration and about 5 other things.
octave Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 So the postal servey is the go looks to me their money failed to kill it no vote will have em crying in nappies better buy shares in the tissue company or the beach towel company Neil Hey Neil, just wondering if you are worried that the no vote might lose and I am wondering if you would be willing to share with us how personally devasting this would be for you, could you tell us how this will impact on your life? I think it is a fair question
spacesailor Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 Bruce I agree whole heartedly with you. spacesailor
storchy neil Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 What gets me grumpy the bull that this is more important than the welfare off children economic situation bloody refugees ripping us off for trying to get free meals the hand out to the unemployed sending jobs overseas 6 people that I know who live in a gay relationship won't be voting yes Did you get a say when your premier blue up port Augusta power plant Do you get a say when the politicians get a pay rise Do you have a say what tax laws you are told to follow Before this I did not and still do not Give a shiiiiit with whom they want to shak up with but now not giving me a personal say in a LAW that they are telling me I HAVE to vote yes now that psssssme of to what make what legal When a politician says I have to say yes they have in my opinion an underlying bad agenda neil
octave Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 they are telling me I HAVE to vote yes Neil who is telling you you have to vote yes???? You are absolutely free to examine your own conscience and vote according to what you believe. You are absolutely free to put forward your argument and I and others are completely free to challenge it. But again I ask you that if SSM becomes legal, how personally devasting this would this be for you, could you tell us how this will impact on your life?
Marty_d Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 Yeah, what are they thinking, letting same sex couples marry?? Next they'll be letting interracial couples marry... or old people... or couples who can't have kids.... oh, wait...
Jerry_Atrick Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 Steady on Marty, ol' chap. One assault on a civil society at a time, please
Jerry_Atrick Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 <snip>Do you get a say when the politicians get a pay rise Do you have a say what tax laws you are told to follow <snip> I like the cut of your jib, Storchy. The plebiscite is non-binding so these should be definitely put to the people, like a listed company getting shareholders (taxpayers) to vote on executive pay - could send a shiver down the spine of many a politician.
storchy neil Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 Jerry you could get in to trouble thinking out side the square neil
Bruce Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 I have the agree with storchy about how politicians have got a bad name these days and trust is low. The demolition of Port Augusta power station was so amazingly fast that the thing had a bad smell in my opinion too. That power station could have been mothballed until the shortcomings of intermittent solar and wind became obvious even to idiots. But we are sort of democratic and in theory we could change all those pollies next election. In reality, we can't even change the local council while we pay ripoff rates to support obscene fat-cat salaries in the same council. Those in control know that a few thousand of advertising money brings in the votes at the right time. So I'm joining storchy in the grumpy old buggers corner.
old man emu Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 So I'm joining storchy in the grumpy old buggers corner. Squeeze up a bit. I'm coming over, too.
spacesailor Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 I'm a No voter! "how personally devastating this would this be for you," Out of maybe 20 descendants, a lot less then half will get married ( heterosexuals). But if this SSM becomes law, I will be Expected to attend at least three ssm marriages, if I decline I will be ostracized, & called prejudice. Also it's another cost I cannot afford, and I don't like the look of one "partner" (ugly) to put it mildly, for such a good looking "person". ( could fancy him/her myself). It's also hard to use "correct" wording. So much easier before things went weird. spacesailor
old man emu Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 Spacey, you've got a real First World problem there. Maybe you'll cark it before the SSMs happen and they can decline to attend your funeral. Solves the prejudice problem for both sides.
Bruce Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 Gosh space , you have the best "no" argument I have ever heard. Neither of my kids are married to their partners, and I would be horrified if they decided to be married and it was going to cost me big money. I'll give you a barbie in the hangar for a reception ( I would say ) and pay ten grand off your mortgage but I will not pay for some mumbo-jumbo and a reception at some fashionable place.
Geoff13 Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 My daughter eloped last week, came and told me for fathers day that she was no longer my problem as she had a husband to annoy now and look how much she saved me. Best Fathers Day gift ever. She was very worried about how I would feel about it all and was so happy when I smiled gave her a hug and said how proud I was of her for making her own decisions and doing what was right for her. So I didn't get to walk her down the aisle but weddings are for the two people being married and they should do what they want how they want and when they want.
Marty_d Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 and I don't like the look of one "partner" (ugly) to put it mildly, for such a good looking "person". ( could fancy him/her myself). So perve on the bridesmaids like everyone else!
octave Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 What I'd like to know is, what percentage of the population are we talking about? I'm sure it is a minority, possibly a small but very vocal minority. Surely the majority are of traditional orientation (I won't say normal, because this is normal for them). If getting "married" makes them happy, then so be it, provided they SHUT UP. But they carry on like they've discovered the secret of eternal youth, and ram it down our throats night and day. I don't care what they do, they can hang by their toes from the door frame for all I care, I'm just not interested. I don't go around plastering what I do all over social media. My sister is gay and for most of her life had to pretend she wasn't.at huge. personal cost. How can SSM ever happen if people are not allowed to talk about it lest it is construed as "forcing it down peoples throats? I love flying if I go out with my flying cap on or lobby government to provide better facilities for aviation am I forcing it down peoples throats? I get the idea that some people have the attitude that "yeah it is ok to be in a same sex relationship as long as you don't mention it and I can't see any signs of it because it might offend my oh so delicate sensibilities", which is pretty lame. sorry but this is something I feel quite strongly about.
octave Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 The other story was about a woman who administered her oestrogen tablets to her young son, because as a toddler he liked to wear dresses. He is now a teenager and has developed breasts, but wishes to be a man. Honestly, the world is nuts. well if you heard it then it must be true eh. You seem to be able to tell by the way the walk. Your logic seems to be you can tell who is gay by the way that they walk therefore you can usually rule out gayness if they don't walk like that, are you sure about that. How do you know masculine acting men you meet are not gay. I spent many years in RAAF with a great guy who I quite accidentally found out was gay although nobody else knew and I wasn't about to expose him Unfortunately many years after I left the RAAF I heard that he had taken his own life. After he left RAAF he had a short and disastrous marriage to women and he started drinking heavily I have no idea why he took his own life but I imagine repressing a large part who you are can't be easy or healthy.
kgwilson Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 I couldn't give a flying fig if 2 males or 2 females or 2 hermaphrodites get married. That's their business. How that destroys the nuclear family or ensures kids at school are going to be taught about homosexuality or make boys wear dresses or all this other garbage being spouted by extremists is beyond me. Abetz keeps rabbiting on about all the bad experiences in other countries who have marriage equality without providing a single example or any shred of evidence. I think I'm like most people, I just don't feckin care. Why this issue has consumed Australian politics for so long is a sad indictment on the pathetic state of our system. In Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, United States Uruguay and soon to be law in Germany there was some debate and the bloody government then legislated it. Simple and cost them feck all, not $122 million for a non binding voluntary survey that they may not even take any notice of. All those other countries must look at Australia and just shake their heads in disbelief.
Marty_d Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 I heard two stories today, from my wife's Facebook. Lots of stories on Facebook, some of them may even be true. I'm not gay, but I know that letting them marry the person they love will in no way affect my life or diminish my own marriage. So I guess if someone wants the same rights as I have, it wouldn't be fair to refuse them.
spacesailor Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 Well, I have to go to my Grandson's wedding!. I could decline & no one will say anything about it. My niece's son (homosexual) had an engagement party, I couldn't attend & now I'm crap, even though I had pneumonia with a collapsed lung. So I do know it's going to cost me personally, one way or another. spacesailor
