I have IAG shares, now they'r taking some of My meager shares to give to the Very wealthy CEO, as an extra bonus, on top of his remittance.

I couldn't understand the Lawyer speak, when asked to vote on it, but weeks later, they explained it a bit better. (Share Consolidation(take from the poor&give to the wealthy))

Conscription is being suggested for the unemployed.

How can being trained "cannon fodder" suit a person for work as a laboratory assistant .

(one bullet in, take aim, One job vacancy,( working in the US it seems))

AND GOD HELP CHILDREN! if you put soldiers as teachers. as was done in the 1950's.

millions of demobbed service men & women were promised any job they want, without training.

I lived through that SSHHIITT. and will bear the scars forever.

Kerry Packer turned tax minimisation into a national sport with his 1991 appearance before a parliamentary inquiry, when he said anyone who didn't do everything legal to reduce their tax bill “wanted their head read because I don't think you're spending it that well that I should be donating extra"

While his statement was quite telling, I could be wrong but I don't think he donated much if anything.

I tend to agree with Kerry Packer. Why pay to the government that which you can legally keep. It is not Kerry Packers fault that he doesn't pay more tax. It is the governments fault that they wrote the rules to suit him instead of the little bloke.

Ah, but who donates to the government? Not the little bloke. That's the way it works. You have the money, you buy the politicians.

If I had my way, all donations to any political party would be banned. Electoral commission would work out some fair way to distribute a set amount of dosh to political parties and that's their lot. A strong Federal ICAC to enforce the laws. Donations to be banned would not only include cash but gifts, wining & dining, tickets to sporting events, travel sponsored by other countries or corporations, etc. There's a lot of ways big business and lobbyists pay for their politicians which puts their agendas first and ours last.

Great idea Marty. The problem is that then the Pollies would have no reason to be in power except for their salary and do what they promised to get there so they'd have to actually do something honest to make a living. No chance.

Exactly. We would like to disincentivise those greed motivated pollies.

All we would be left with would be people with good will. I admit that during the changeover period, both housesof parliament house might be a bit empty.

Plato proposed a method that would filter the sociopaths out of politics. But that still hasn't got up yet. It's only been a couple of thousand years, so don't hold your breath Marty

Plato was also the first proponent of eugenics, his treatise being that good-looking chaps should breed with good-looking women as often as possible, while ugly blokes should breed with ugly women very seldom.

Which means I'd never get a root, and if I did, I wouldn't want it. So Plato can go breed with himself.

I didn't claim to like everything Plato said.

But then again....

Eugenics only fell out of favor after the Jewish folk experienced one sociopath's interpretation of it.

Eugenics could be applied to limit sociopaths from breeding. Especially the ugly sociopaths.

I think the chinese , albeit with one party but many candidates for each seat, have such a system.

I read that they are shocked to hear of our "donations" system and they think we are corrupt as a result.

Eugenics, applied over many hundreds of generations, explains why we today are so unreasonably acquiescent of people in authority. It was obviously so dangerous to displease authority that our very genes were altered by culling out the people who resisted.

Eugenics is a croc. Some of the people who have contributed to humaity's value most would have fallen foul of Eugenics and humaity would be the worst for it.. Stephen Hawkins and Beethoven are two that immeditely spring to mind.. plus the vagrant named Sam in Shoreditch I met a couple of weeks ago.. salt of the earth - but without a chiseled jaw and blue eyes... Quentin Kenihan, Jack Carrol, Andy Hamilton - all great contibutors to society...

All Eugenics will do is breed conformity to a norm and a dull and listless society...

Not really (falling out of favour) - seen the "celebrity" or wealthy or sporting society - all boring same old same old... Marry and breed with the stereotypes... Have you noticed most of the AFL surnames are the same they were 20 years go?

Aaah.

And that is exactly what we need for a passive society free from conflict. ;)

On the other hand, I suspect that the practice of eugenics has already started. In a more socially acceptabe style than the pre WW2 style. Blood tests and DNA testing in utero is already used for the purpose of identifying Downs syndrome and spina bifida in foetus. This is generally accepted by the public.

They are not ALL bad. You just have to look hard to find them even in both parties but less in the LNP. They get sorted at the preselection level and the better ones have given up and left. (It's still happening now)

IF you aren't a rabid climate denier you won't get into the "Rightist" parties so the broad chuch is broad in only one direction. They are bound by the tactics and antics the policy people make up to stay I power. Listening to the already rich makes sure you are with the money and get more of it. From a survival and being influential and please Murdoch aspect it's a better business model than trying to educate the masses and try to get a fair go for all .. Not what you know but WHO you know is there too with the born to rule lot. Its amazing the others ever get in..Nev

Jerry, you referred to Quentin Kenihan. If you are in the UK, you may not have heard he passed away during the last week or so. Quentin was in my second son's grade at primary school and attended a birthday party at our house over 35 years ago.

Who donates to the government?.

The bottom of the pyramid.

Tax as you earn!.

Tax as you spend!.

K packer can buy wholesale.

No tax.

We know he pays bugger all on His earnings!

Same with all the Bs, that rort the system

I pay'd through the nose tax all my working life, now I can't work, & get social security, dickheads whinge like they'r paying out of their personal pocket.

Pay'd more tax than the wife earned in wages, most weeks & if it had gone into Superannuation, I'd be living like K Packer.

Marty, copious amounts of alcohol can help.

If Plato had his way,

There would be a very POOR selection of mates for the breeder's of humanity, then perhaps the population explosion, would have been reversed!.

Something you might take a look at. There is a roofing system which uses tiles which contain PV cells so that they don't sit on top of the roof, they are the roof. Not only that, they are water cooled to improve performance, using that to supply preheated hot water for pool heating, space heating and general hot water. The name is Tractile, and full details are available on their website tractile.com.au

I would love to have lots of natural energy stuff but alas its all too expensive for me. I reckon that real green equipment is for rich people, except for the odd hermit type of guy. ( I actually know a guy like this, his woman left him long ago)

At the farm, a solar water heater plus a heating coil for the combustion firebox was what I wanted. But it was $6000 compared with $900 for a gas water heater. The gas bill is less than the interest on $5100. There is also a regulation about automatic systems to limit the hot water temperature for a solar heater. Perhaps another $1000?

Bugger, the hot water feels much better if it comes from "free" energy.

Bruce anyone living out of town can build their own solar hot water system. Mine cost a poofteenth over $200 to put together thirty years ago. Apart from two repair jobs over the years it has cost nothing to run and provides hot water for free.

I used a home made solar system for years, until my wife wanted to update from a slow combustion stove to electric. Put in photovoltaic cells and Solahart HWS all good for a few years, until the Solahart stuffed up. Now I have replaced it with new technology evacuated tube Apricus HWS. That system has gone through 2 winters, when the collector gets some shading through the day and I have not had to boost it except for the first day of use.

My home built system worked, but was not efficient. Solahart was efficient, but their service and knowledge of their system was deplorable. The Apricus system costs me a very small amount to pump hot water down from collector to tank, but is saving multi Kw.

A lot of people seem to think that solar is the way to go and want to use batteries to store it. My experience with batteries is that tney do not ever perform as well as advertised, they have a finite life and will need to be replaced. That means more power is used to build and transport new batteries, plus get rid of the old.

Nobody seems to want to look at using solar to heats salts to store heat for producing off peak steam for turbines. It has been done I think in Spain and also germany, but obviously we don't get enough sun in Australia for us to do it here.
