A ninety year old aboriginal elder sat in his humpy eyeing two government 'Welfare' officials sent to interview him.

One official said to him: "You have observed the white man for 90 years. You have seen his wars and his technological advances. You have seen his progress and the damage he has done."

The elder nodded in agreement. The official continued: "Considering all these events, in your opinion, where did the whitefella go wrong?"

The elder stared at the two government officials for over a minute and then he calmly replied: "When whitefella found the land, blackfellas were running it. No taxes, No debt, Plenty kangaroo, Plenty fish, Women did all the work, Medicine man free, Aboriginal man spent all day hunting and fishing, All night having sex."

Then the elder leaned back and smiled: "Only whitefella bloody stupid enough to think he could improve a system like that".

And while we are on about the wisdom of the so-called 'backward' peoples .........

Wendy was driving on a long lonely journey, saw an elderly indigenous lady slowly walking in the direction she was travelling, so, looking forward to the company, stopped and gave her a lift. The indigenous one wasn't exactly the most talkative person on earth, so Wendy offered her some chocolate to 'break the ice', so to speak. The elder thanked her, "Nice chocolate". "Yes, Wendy replied, I got it for my husband". "Good trade".

If you're wondering at the small font, its so the geriatric (OK, pot calling kettle black) members of this forum who know far too much have so much difficulty reading it they won't be able to spoil a good story with the facts until long after the post has lost its immediacy.

David, my family says I',m as blind as a bat, but I read it without a problem, using my normal glasses, not my reading glasses.

Nev, you're too pessimistic. Individual people are usually good. Its when you get a group of them things turn bad - examples include tourists, football crowds, religious adherants (and there is a difference between real Christians and religious christians), political party members and indigenous groups. When a savvy public figure builds on the collective emotion then normally rational people can lose the plot, but take an individual out of their sphere of influence and sanity returns.

Most people today seem to be under one sphere of influence or another. Where are the truly INDEPENDENT thinkers/ researchers?

My comment relates to a race/or competition where there is only ONE winner and they are the only one to get noticed in some places. Other's in the race may have put in meritorious performances under difficult circumstances but go unnoticed, largely. That's the way it works.. Nev
