I think the water levels in the cut channels is OK, but the level in the associated lakes is falling. Aaah. At last.... an environmentally friendly way to cure the pirate problem. A solution that won't need any american weapons to achieve. 1

spacesailor
Simple solution. Off load from the ' oversized shipping. Transport on multiple smaller boats that have less depth. It will keep the Panamanian people in work & their economy healthy.. spacesailor
facthunter
It was originally designed to be deeper. The total lift is not very much but will cost lots as Ships are also bigger now. Nev.
nomadpete
Did you know that those bigger ships would be unnecessary if countries started up manufacturing their own products instead of importing the cheapest stuff that they can find, from other countries?

red750
You may know this. I didn't, I didn't even know it was a thing. A post came up on Facebook explaining why airlines detour around the Tibetan plateau. It's not due to military domination or restrictions, and only partly due to turbulance over the mountains. It's because the plateau is 14,000 ft high, and if the aircraft suffered a decompression, it would not be able to descend to the safe level of 10,000 ft. Besides, there are no suitable airfields to make an emergency landing.

red750
Did you know?.... Don Adams, the American comic actor and comedian who gained worldwide fame and three Emmy Awards starring as Agent 86, Maxwell Smart, in the classic television comedy Get Smart joined the U.S. Marines in the early days of World War II. He saw combat in the invasion of Guadalcanal and was the only survivor of his platoon. He contracted blackwater fever and nearly died, remaining hospitalized for more than a year. After his recovery he served as a drill instructor. 1
