willedoo Posted May 21, 2024 Posted May 21, 2024 Did you know how the F-111 dump and burn began? The dump and burn flight tests were performed due to a concern about fuel dumping at high all-up weights after the loss of one engine, a situation that could require operation of the remaining engine in afterburner. 1
willedoo Posted June 19, 2024 Posted June 19, 2024 Here's another one: did you know that the real name of Mister Ed the talking horse was Bamboo Harvester. 1
pmccarthy Posted June 19, 2024 Posted June 19, 2024 He never speaks unless he has something to say. That would be good policy around here! 1 1

Marty_d Posted June 19, 2024 Posted June 19, 2024 I've been there but didn't kiss it Seeing a bunch of other tourists stick their lips on it kind of put me off.
pmccarthy Posted June 19, 2024 Posted June 19, 2024 (edited) I think I made a kissing gesture. Still have the photo. Edited June 19, 2024 by pmccarthy

Litespeed Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 I remember my old Vw type 3 wagon, it had the flat rear floor with the pancake motor and a huge front boot? Bootylicious 1
facthunter Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 That motor had a different cooling fan drive if it's aircooled. Nev
Litespeed Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 Yes, The pancake were twin carb with a large driven fan horizontal on the top. A big leap in space efficiency and better reliability.
old man emu Posted June 22, 2024 Posted June 22, 2024 Did you know that no births, deaths or marriages are recorded in Great Britain in the date range 3rd September 1752 to 13 September 1752? 1

old man emu Posted June 23, 2024 Posted June 23, 2024 Did you know? I live adjacent to a rural highway. On the other side of the road there are lots of trees between the road and the property fence. The other day, I heard someone cutting firewood beside the road. I didn't worry me. Today I learned that the local council ranger had called on the person at their home and informed him that it is an offence with a maximum penalty of $14,000 to remove timber from the area between the road and a property line. Apparently, taking that timber destroys places where native animals live. 1 1

Wouldn't they be better off living in treed areas AWAY from the highway? (Roadkill...) Talking of which, I almost hit an owl on Friday morning when driving early. He was perched on a flattened wallaby. I braked for him and he managed to fly off about 2 inches in front of my grille. First time I've seen one for a while.
