Well Spacey, the answer "can't be done" should've been qualified with the reasons why. The reasons may have been your proposal was electrically unsound, it didn't meet electrical regulations, or  it didn't meet council regulations. Any electrical installation that produces more than 24V must be installed by a licenced electrical contractor, even if it's not connected to the grid.

they didn't want the job !.

Or the , job rewiring my distribution board for the ' Earth Leakage Circuit breaker .

That's supposed to be compulsory on selling the house .

It's compulsory to do it before any other work is done with the electrical circuitry or you continue to be supplied.. It's unsafe mate. Also expect things like old stoves and bench grinders to blow the circuit breaker.  These things stop plumbers and plasterers etc from being electrocuted and you too if you still use corded tools or borrowed leads..  Nev

What does one do , when you call electrical contractors,  who don't want your job .

PS. : what size ( 3 or 4 core ) wire do I need from 'Bunnings'

PPS. : could I keep the light circuit as is ? .

Yes we oldies are in the age group that lived before the " certified tradesmen " had jobs

Who taught the " first tradie " to pass their exam  .

 My late brother  & I taught under-water diving  in the late 50s before certification.

Copied  Jacques Cousteau.  & others who dabbled. 

Then we had to go to the people we taught to fill our air tanks , then they stopped us using ' rebreathers .
