Go TO get is a bit pedantic in the normal context. Nev. An interesting one. You could ask an apprentice to "go and get the spanner", which would imply that the apprentice knows to go somewhere specific and once there select a spanner. There is also the implication that the apprentice returns with the spanner. "Go to get the spanner" could imply leaving the vicinity and going somewhere that a spanner could be obtained, such as in "I have to go to the tool supplier to get a Whitworth widget". I think that's where being pedantic comes in. It's all dependent on the context of the act of leaving. Probably the clearest way to say such a thin would be to say "Go to the (place where it is) and get it". But that would introduce too many words, and speech between individuals usually involves a reduction in total words used. 1
Yenn Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 I am going to go is one of my least liked contraptions. I shall go or I will go or even I am going, better still I'me off, which those of you who have been close to me would agree with. 1

onetrack Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 "I'm off like a rotten cheese", has the right kind of Aussie vernacular flavour.
facthunter Posted December 14, 2021 Posted December 14, 2021 OFF like roadkill would be more Aussie.. Probably don't notice it in your Toorak tractors with "climate Control". Cheese doesn't really get that bad.. Spuds are unbelievably vile..Nev 1

facthunter Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 My reply is from the aspect of the dumb ones as I qualify. The only genuine personal plate is wanker. Nev 1
onetrack Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 Sorry, OME, I was in a hurry when I posted that, and failed to proof read. What's the standard penalty for a missing apostrophe? Does it include demerit points?
