willedoo Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 (edited) Trump bangs on a a bit about fake news, but you can't blame him really. There's plenty of it about. ABC News (the American one) put up video of his recent Presidential News Conference and headlined it "Trump calls improved jobs numbers ‘great day in terms of equality’ ". A lot of social media is reporting that he said the job figures were great news for George Floyd and that he would be looking down and smiling. Only problem is, it's all BS. Trump was discussing the job figures. He also discussed new federal legislation to ensure fair treatment by police forces for all citizens. He said the legislation was a great day for equality and a great day for George Floyd. ABC News cut out part of the speech to make it look like he was referring to the job figures. I saw the correct unadulterated piece tonight on Planet America. Is the American press really getting that bad that they straight out lie and purposely deceive people. I don't think our press has got quite that bad yet. Ours might twist the truth a bit, but not this blatantly. Edited June 13, 2020 by willedoo 1
octave Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 It still seems like a bizarre and insensitive thing to say. It is as if George Floyd should be grateful that the a law has changed. I am not sure how this is a great day for George Floyd or his family. 1
onetrack Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 And then there's the Media joke doing the Trump supporter rounds .... Donald Trump invited the Pope for lunch on his yacht. The Pope accepted, and during lunch, a puff of wind blew the Pontiff's hat off - right into the water. It floated off about 50 feet; then the wind died down, and it just floated in place. The boat crew and the Secret Service men were scrambling to launch a boat to go get it, when Trump waved them off, saying, "Never mind boys, I'll get it.” Then Donald climbed over the side of the yacht, walked on the water to the hat - picked it up, walked back on the water, climbed into the yacht, and handed the Pope his hat. The boat crew were speechless The security team and the Pope's entourage were speechless. No one knew what to say, not even the Pope. But that afternoon, the ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, NPR, and MSNBC all headlined their news with; "DONALD TRUMP CAN'T SWIM!!" 1 1

You probably guessed with my post that I was pointing out press dishonesty and not condoning Trump in any way. Watching the press conference in it's entirety, it was just one big long childish, barely coherent rant. Anyone who thinks he's even slightly sane should watch it and be cured of all such thoughts. 2

onetrack Posted June 14, 2020 Posted June 14, 2020 It's O.K., the Leader of the Free World places no values on books, he freely admits he's never read one. Make you wonder what he reads in the reams of paperwork placed in front of him every day. He makes GeeDubya look like an avid reader. https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2018/01/americas-first-post-text-president/549794/
red750 Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 Another classic video of the Don addressing a cadets graduation ceremony. Gets up to the dais to speak, takes a glass of water, and needs two hands to lift it to his mouth - again. Then gives his speech, mispronouncing Ulysses S Grant's name. then has to walk down the "long, steep ramp". The specs for the ramp showed it was 4.5 degrees. He looked like he was about to fall.
onetrack Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 It's probably the side effects of all that chloroquine he's taking for the COVID-19 virus protection.
red750 Posted June 21, 2020 Posted June 21, 2020 No doubt about the orange buffoon. At his election rally, he has referred to the pandemic as"Kung Flu", and shouted "Stop the testing! You've made your point." He also told his gullible cheering followers "If you don't do anything stupid in November, next year will be the best economic year ever." 2
old man emu Posted June 21, 2020 Posted June 21, 2020 We laughed back then at this, but how prophetic was it? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzbhbetwYFU And TV has had its harbingers. The West Wing turned reality into entertainment. The Apprentice turned entertainment into reality.
old man emu Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 I guess that the POTUS never took the time to watch the 1995 movie Outbreak. Outbreak takes on an idea (a viral contagion, an invisible threat) from a decidedly less cerebral point of view. Wolfgang Petersen’s film, which premiered in 1995 is not a subtle movie, or even a terribly thoughtful one. For a movie whose subject is epidemiology, Outbreak features a shocking number of explosions: Its genre, fundamentally and unapologetically, is "Action". But the film’s utter lack of nuance is itself revealing: Its bluntness manages to capture some of the extreme contradictions of this moment—a situation some are treating as an emergency and others are treating as a Monday. Outbreak gets a lot wrong, but it gets one of the broadest things right. It understands that, in America, one of the biggest threats to public health can be American culture itself. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contagion_(2011_film) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outbreak_(film) 4

A sad reflexion on the mass market, and perhaps American culture. The US does produce the odd excellent movie that doesn't rely on gratuitous violence, sex and all that is worst in human nature... but they don't make much money. 42 minutes ago, old man emu said: ...Outbreak gets a lot wrong, but it gets one of the broadest things right. America could learn much from nations like Vietnam, Thailand and Taiwan, where people quickly supported their governments. They have handled this pandemic so well. Even Greece, not noted for being a well-run country, has played a blinder, while nations which overemphasise individual rights are in a mess.
old man emu Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 DISTRIBUTION: The North American Trump can be found in four small niches on the eastern coast of the North American continent. These are the island of Manhattan, the vicinity of Central Park, New York City, an 86 hectare reserve in Westchester County, New York State and another reserve in Palm Beach, Florida. It has also been spotted in the past few years at a protected site in Washington D.C., although it is hoped that it will not occupy this site in the near future. Although found mainly in the Northeast, the North American Trump is closely associated with the Southern Redneck. BREEDING The male North American Trump provides nests for its mate and off-spring in the tops of the highest, most luxuriant trees. It maintains a strong bond with its young, often engaging in joint enterprises with them. It may be somewhat stand-offish with its mate. TERRITORIAL HABITS The North American Trump exhibits strong xenophobic behaviour. It often attempts to create walls around its territory of mud or vines. It is able to encourage the young of the Southern Redneck to enter the territory of other birds and engage in combat. It is known to drive lesser adult males of the species from its nesting areas it they fail to follow its lead scrupulously. 1

The only American movies I enjoy are cowboy movies. Reason being, they don't have the standard ten minute long, moronic car chases. A horse chase is far less embarrassing to watch.
facthunter Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 The American appetite in most things (CULTURE) is formed by it's value judgements at the time which draw a lot on it's history. Like many, take by force what you can get away with is pretty universal. The biggest fortunes were made in the South involved with Slave based Cotton production. The Spanish conquistadores and the Euro colonist were no different. The brits just loaded all the gold in India and pinched it and that was a private company, not the government although they were enriched by it .Betty Winsor is still one of the richest people in the world. Not nice really but there you go. Of course there's Gengis Khan and the Christian Knights going east, Constantine etc nev 1

I believe the Trump Vulgaris attempts to breed with any female, often bribing its way into the nest by presenting the female with lots of cash (let's face it, why else would they??)
onetrack Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 To use the words "American" and "Culture" in the one sentence, rates as this centurys greatest oxymoron. 1 2 1
willedoo Posted June 30, 2020 Posted June 30, 2020 At least someone wants Donald. The Iranians have issued arrest warrants for Trump and several others on charges of murder and terror acts relating to the murder of General Soleimani. They've requested Interpol to issue Red Notices for them. The Iranians won't want to hold their breath waiting for that one. 1
